There's an interesting look at this kind of high level fundraising in Michael J. Fox's autobiography "Lucky Man."  He describes what it was like to set up his Parkinson's foundation as well as meeting Ali.

Also Tango, someone on Tumblr pointed out Mohammed Ali's daughter was Maks partner on DWTS several seasons ago and he got to meet the Ali family....so there is a closer friend connection to this event for Maks

We talked a lot last night about this Muhammed Ali charity event, and this is a question I always have about such things -- why not just donate the money and be done with it? I think it's ridiculous that people have to "see and be seen" at some fancy dinner, show, event of any kind, etc. in order to get money out of them for a worthy cause. If Mark Cuban is going to lend his plane for a charity event, why doesn't he just give the charity the money that it will cost to fly these people all over the place? If Maks were dancing again for DWTS  season 19, he wouldn't be able to go all over the place, now would he? He would have to have just mailed in a check.  
I've decided to just watch season 19 and "pretend" I don't care who wins. I always want to do that but somehow get sucked into really rooting for one particular couple. I want to focus on this new season and try not to care what M&M are doing. I need to remember the attitude of the 109-year-old man, Charlie White,  whom I talked about yesterday -- Charlie learned to separate those things he could control from the things he could not; he didn't fret about matters beyond his power.

hey Annie, someone on tumblr pointed out  that this is a Mohammed Ali Charity and Leila Ali was one of Maks past partners on the show so that may be why he was invited and is going

April I had not thought of that...that could be the reason....

i hadn't thought of it until i saw it on Tumblr, but it makes sense because when she ws his partner he got to meet the whole Ali family including Mohammed....i may have to go back and try to watch their season on youtube

LOL..well Alfonso said he would and I think Whiney has the personality to let him....I really think they may be the "fun" couple to watch  .....I hope MNM do at some point...i think the best chance is prob the finale

Saw the cast announcement this morning.  Even having face to match their names, I still didn't know only a couple.  Not sure if I will watch this season or not.  May, just try it out for a few eps and see how it goes, but I am just not excited or even care about this season.  I think I am in a depressed mood, especially after reading last nights "happenings".  I didn't like that the GMA people said that Val and his partner were already the front runners, may turn off voters.  Of course, Derek gets someone, that looks like she can dance and has million of followers.

I'm right here Luv..."hold my hand"....i don't know whats going on with Maks either...someone on tumblr pointed out that Mohammed Ali's daughter Leila was one of Maks past partners so that may have something to do with why he's there...i think season 19 could be ok...i don't think it will be as good as season 18 was...but i think it has some good potential...I think Whitney and Alfonso will be good and of course Val and Janel....but even if they all suck we'll have each other right here to laugh about it with!!!
