We talked a lot last night about this Muhammed Ali charity event, and this is a question I always have about such things -- why not just donate the money and be done with it? I think it's ridiculous that people have to "see and be seen" at some fancy dinner, show, event of any kind, etc. in order to get money out of them for a worthy cause. If Mark Cuban is going to lend his plane for a charity event, why doesn't he just give the charity the money that it will cost to fly these people all over the place? I've thought this for years -- not just because of this M. Ali event.
If Maks were dancing again for DWTS season 19, he wouldn't be able to go all over the place, now would he? He would have to have just mailed in a check.![]()
I've decided to just watch season 19 and "pretend" I don't care who wins. I always want to do that but somehow get sucked into really rooting for one particular couple. I want to focus on this new season and try not to care what M&M are doing. I need to remember the attitude of the 109-year-old man, Charlie White, whom I talked about yesterday -- Charlie learned to separate those things he could control from the things he could not; he didn't fret about matters beyond his power.
Lots to do today, so will check in later.
Annie, My thoughts exactly on the donations to charity. My husband always bids on silent auctions at events we go to. We "win" things we don't want or need and usually at a little bit lower price than the "value". That means that we can't claim it on our income taxes. I've tried and tried to convince him that we should just write a check then we could claim it and be done with it. I have sat through so many boring dinners and events when I would just rather write the check and be done with it. These events sound wonderful, but in reality they are not. My idea of a wonderful vacation to Italy is a vacation on our own, not being bussed around from event to event with people who become boring really fast because you really have nothing in common with them. The cost of the private plane alone could add up tons of money for the charity. The end is people wanting to smooze and be seen. The designers and preformers who are having dinners/events/etc really want nothing to do with most of the people coming other than what they can do for them. They are all getting a big write off and name recognition. Ok, I know I sound hateful, but honestly those are the facts about these things. I need t o get off the computer and get on with my day and try NOT to think of what's going on.
It's going to be really easy not to watch DWTS this season. Thanks, Ollie. Good to see that someone agrees with the points I made. AND, what I forgot to say is that having a Fight Night or whatever they called it, totally turns me off. I hate the sport of boxing and would never go to a fight if if were free and right across the street from me. (Or even if Maks invited me!!) It is a vicious and harmful "sport". Hope I didn't offend anyone with these comments. I don't think that people who go to these events are bad or vicious -- maybe just unaware.
Hopefully it is not meant literally, but as a 'fight' night against Parkinson's disease.

Good morning from the west coast, ladies!
Not sure if I am glad or sad to have missed most of the discussion last nite and this morning!! I've read most of it and have made a few general overall conclusions.
Couple of comments:
1) I LOVED April's "let's listen to Meryl" commentary on pg. 102. Like I have said before, you don't just lose those feelings IF you actually invested yourself in someone else. We need to remember that both MnM have commitments that may have predated dwts--or have been the result of their success there (at least in part). Meryl is a serious student (as was I in those days), I know I would never have considered taking a week's trip overseas when just beginning a new term in school. Remember also, Meryl and Charlie haven't been doing college courses for at least a year because of Olympic training, etc.
2) Personally Maks looks rather uncomfortable in that pic with the 21 yr. old dame on the plane. She looks like an air head to me--and he is certainly not displaying any outward affection, which we know is his usual style. He knows that whatever pics are taken will be blown up on the internet. I am sure Meryl knows that as well.
3) Any serious and savy businessman will take advantage of something like this charity event for two reasons: a) exposure and b) to write off all expenses by conducting other business interests (Cantamessa) in the same general location. So it is most likely that the dame is going to model jewelry for Cantamessa also and may be sponsored by them--as Maks may well be also.
4) Does it really make sense to think Maks would be interested in a 21 yr. old BLOGGER who puts pics of herself all over the internet for $$????? What sort of character does that exhibit??? NONE! IF Maks falls into that, he is not the person we and Meryl think he is, which would be the biggest disappointment of all!! If he wants a private life, it wouldn't be one with a blogger!!!!
So I guess we shall have to see how this ends. Meanwhile, there is no rain here today so I'll just dance in the sun with you guys!

April I agree...I do think it will be a good season...Whitney and Alfonso along with Val and Janel will be good to watch...I think Lea Thompson and Artem may supprise us and Betsy Johnson with Tony...Oh my sounds like fun..Keo Motsepe is quite good himself...
I think it will an ok season...I do hope Val wins...they are saying that he and Janel are the couple to watch!!!yeah i like all those and I think Keo and LoLo may be a good team too don't know what to make of the guy Sharna has yet
I just hope Alfonso gets to do his Carlton Dance at some point....
Do you think Maks and Meryl will come back to dance at all on the new season???
I would expect them to dance during the finale (unless she is too put out with him by then). Kellie Pickler and Amber Riley both came back and sang (because that is what got them noticed in the first place and why they were on DWTS) but we couldn't expect Meryl and Charlie to do any ice dancing, so she would have to just dance with someone. Usually, the winner doesn't perform with the pro that they won with -- they just go it solo or make a big production like Amber did.

hey Annie, someone on tumblr pointed out that this is a Mohammed Ali Charity and Leila Ali was one of Maks past partners on the show so that may be why he was invited and is going
I wasn't watching that year, but I knew they danced together. I think she is quite beautiful. Keep being positive, April, because I need it!

Good evening ladies. I have had a very busy two days and just dropped by.
Everyone check the info from tumblr, everything is maksyl. It appears that there is a large upcoming charity event in Italy to support Muhammed Ali. All the information is not out yet.
Today Enews admitted that the JLO rumors were untrue. I personally believe that Maks did the right thing in refusing to talk about it anymore and my guess is that his new representation encouraged him to ignore it. I hope that you all will not be angry wilth me, but I personally cannot understand how we can believe and say so many good things about Maks and then conclude that he has asked a 21 one year old bikini model to be his date at a charity event. It is of course always possible that I could be wrong. Anyway, let's wait and see what this event is. I know that on one tumblr account they are convinced that a lot of people are going to be on that plane. Also, I personally cannot imagine Mark Cuban lending a jet this size for only two people, or maybe three or four. He was, and may still be, on the Shark Tank. He takes care of his money.Well said KOS!! I completely agree with you
Here is a quote from Mark Cuban -- "Anyone who borrows money to start a business is a moron."
That is an interesting quote from Mark Cuban because when my husband and I began our 40 year run as small business owners, we went to sign the lease with our first landlord, who was a small Jewish man with armed guard (yes!) at the front door of his pawn shop in Korea Town in LA--looked like the Godfather behind a huge desk!! He asked us, "Are you mortgaging your house to do this?" We told him "no" (we were renting the house we bought a couple years later and still live in!). His reply was, "Good--I wouldn't offer you this lease if you were doing that because your business would fail!" This is wisdom from two people who were more successful than many--and in the case of Mark Cuban, than most! We were forever grateful for the lesson our first landlord taught us.

Agree with all you say, Jet. We can still also listen a little to Maks. He has said after all that he would be a one-woman man for the rest of his life. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't mean that to be a different one ever so often.
I need to go now. Cheers!!

To go with your wonderful words April..........
Hi all! On at the somewhat unusual time mid-week, 1.15 am. I need a tooth extracted tomorrow, only the second ever so I can't sleep as I'm obviously a wimp! Yes, April and Luv, lets turn the music up and dance in the warm summer rain. Have done that plenty of times! And pass the Denim please. Also, April, if I could borrow your hand tomorrow whilst in the dentist chair, would be much appreciated.
Have to say, sisters, that I'm not worried in the least about bikini girl and Maks. Until confirmed otherwise, I assume he is not a paying guest at 50K, but part of the 'entertainment' at this function. We know that he is on a mission to make hay while the sun shines, i.e. capitalise while being the dwts champion. He said in an interview, that this was not the time to take a break. Also we know that he wants to be set up financially to be able to be a stay home dad. 50K for a charity dinner? Does not seem to fit the plans as we know them. But to combine this with his attendance at the Cantemessa autumn collection launch makes sense. The bikini girl? Maybe part of the entertainment too? Not to worried as I see her lifting her champagne glass ready to toast while Maks folds his arms. And that with him being the known gentleman.
Can't believe how Tony's partner throws her leg in the air. Didn't someone say she was in her 70s?? I am mid 50s and wouldn't get my leg up half as high..... Wow!!! That could be very entertaining.
Gabriele: Good luck at the dentist...April is holding your hand!
I agree with your comments regarding the bikini girl. Maks has never been a guy who has gone form one woman to another that quickly. I think that is a lot of work to invest yourself in someone (such as Meryl), then to toss it off and move to the next one who flaunts herself at you. Doesn't seem to go with how he rolls----but what do we really know?!

I agree with the fight nite thing but Maks is a sports lover--AND he did dance with Ali's daughter on dwts some years ago, so there is another family connection--and he does, in fact, cherish those and maintain those relationships. So we may be making some harsh judgements that may be incorrect. I believe he is doing Cantamessa business while he is there. Is it too risky to suggest maybe designing or having some rings made for his future private life?! We can hope......
