Re: Dishin' With The Sisters: Lucky 21

She’s ba-aaack!

Dancing With the Stars is set to welcome a new co-host on Monday night…and it’s definitely someone fans will know! E! News can exclusively reveal that Leah Remini will heading back to the ballroom to take over as Tom Bergeron’s co-host, while Erin Andrews takes a bit of a break from DWTS duties to cover the World Series as Fox’s MLB sideline reporter. (Andrews will return once the World Series is over.)

Feeling déjà vu?We are, too, because we also reported on Remini filling in for Andrews last October during the Series, too!

Remini, who currently stars on her own hit TLC reality show, Leah Remini: It’s All Relative, was a fan-favorite when she competed on the show in Season 17 with Tony Dovolani, who was forced to withdraw from the competition earlier this season after his partner Kim Zolciak-Biermann was unable to fly after suffering a mini-stroke. Remini won’t be season 21’s first guest host, however, as DWTS champ Alfonso Ribeiro filled in for Bergeron, who had to miss the Oct. 5 show to be with his sick father.

And the King of Queens star won’t be the only famous face making an appearance in the ballroom on Monday night as Olivia Newton-John is set to serve as a guest judge for “Famous Dance” night. So which famous dances will the remaining couples be paying homage to? Check out the full list below:

Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold: “Jailhouse Rock” from Jailhouse Rock
Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas: “I’m A Slave 4 U” by Britney Spears
Andy Grammer & Allison Holker: “Good Morning” from Singing In The Rain
Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough: “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing
Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson: “Pony” from Magic Mike
Hayes Grier & Emma Slater: “You’re The One That I Want” from Grease
Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess: “You Should Be Dancing” from Saturday Night Fever
Paula Deen & Louis van Amstel: “Vogue” by Madonna
Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy: “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson

Look at this picture from Southern California.  Rain, floods, mudslides.  What can you tell us about this, Jet? Anywhere near you?

Good Saturday morning, everyone!  Been much too busy around here but hoping to catch a break in the next couple of days and have time to chat.  Holding my breath!

Thought I would comment on this since you asked, View.  The local weather dude said the mud in the grapevine was about 6' thick...I assume that was in the worst places...no injuries or fatalities, tho, so that is good if you have to get stranded in a mudslide!  The elevation at the top of the pass is 4,100 ft.  and since we got basically NO RAIN here where we are, I assume the storms were along the mountain ridge line that surrounds the LA Basin (gunner lives closer to the mountains way out to the east and she got lightning and thunder a few nites ago).  That is commonly what happens because the mountains create updrafts that form clouds which sometimes (!) drop rain but generally involved thunder and lightning!!  It has been unbearably hot and humid the past several weeks (certainly for fall!) so there is alot of moisture coming up from Baja, which supports the whole El Nino theory of the warm waters creating conditions for alot of rain.  Whatever and however, CalTrans closes the grapevine frequently with far less than thunderstorms and mudslides because of the liabilities the state incurs in lawsuits for whatever accidents occur (and people get really stupid in their driving whenever the streets get the slightest amount of rain on them, it seems).

So...for anyone asking, "What is the grapevine"...I wondered for a long time myself!!....it is the 4 lane highway (Interstate 5) that climbs the mountains going north out of the LA Basin through the Tejon Pass where there is an old fort that is a state park (I-5 goes straight up to Seattle--about an 18 hr. drive).  The road winds and crisscrosses so in places the northbound lanes actually wind separately (by several hundred feet) from the southbound lanes so the northbound lanes are on the left (going north) while the southbound are on the right in some places.  Because of the crisscrossing, that stretch of highway is called "The Grapevine", although there is a small community/oasis called Grapefine at the bottom of the pass on the north side of the mountains.  Not sure which came first, the chicken or the egg!!!  LOL

Just FYI, mudslides are common in mountainous areas in the west where there is little foliage and alot of erosion.   Just sucks if you happen to be traveling through an area prone to that and get into a thunderstorm!  Happy that no one was hurt....but a major inconvenience nonetheless.

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. We fell in love, but our way. Maks

Latest blog post from Derek Houghderek-julianne:

[quote888]Hey everyone!

 Thanks for your votes!

How great was Switch-Up Week? I think this was one of the best ones yet. It was awesome working with Alexa and I’m so proud of her for getting that 40. It does not feel at all weird get a perfect score first with Alexa and not Bindi. It was important that whoever I got last week, I gave them my all. I had a very clear goal to get Alexa’s confidence level up and I think we did that. And in my eyes, Bindi always gets a perfect score!

I thought Bindi did a terrific job in her cha cha. The routine was extremely difficult. Val pushed her and made her sharp. To get a 10 in cha cha is extraordinary. I think the cha cha one of the least impactful dances on the show. If you look at the record books of memorable dances, there are very few, if any, cha chas. There’s a reason we usually do them in the first week. I just loved watching her kill it. I agree with what Bruno said about her shoulders. We were trying to figure out why she moves them up like that. I said yesterday that when she gets excited and is smiling, she raises her shoulders. It was like a light bulb moment. So now that we know, we have to retrain that a little bit.

It feels great to be back with my baby! Pun intended! We have the rumba this week to Dirty Dancing. Normally, we can do our own versions of these dances, but they told us they want us to reflect the original as possible. We still have some freedom with it. The tough part is the lift, of course. I don’t normally do lifts and I never really have done those on the show. And this is a really difficult lift to do. We try every day and we’ve gotten really close. Yesterday, we went to a lake – and I use that term loosely. It was more of a smelly bog. It was in the Hills. There’s a little reservoir and it was so gross. The silt was like 3-feet deep. When you stepped in it, the bubbles popped. Believe me, I did not choose that location! But it was actually really fun.

And before you ask, yes, Jennifer Grey is giving us tips! She’s actually stopping by rehearsals today to check us out. We can’t disappoint her! I guess it was easy to give us Dirty Dancingbecause of my connection to Jennifer, but I think there are actually a lot of parallels between the movie and Bindi. Baby’s 17 in the movie and so is Bindi. Baby wants to change the world. That’s Bindi. Even Bindi’s laughs when she gets goofy are so Jennifer. She’s my Baby Bindi!

Hopefully they won’t give us another lie detector this week! That was rigged! Ha. The whole segment was pretty funny, but for the record, I really don’t think I’m the best pro. I think that’s too broad a label. We’re all good at different things and different styles. We’re all the best in different ways. But I certainly do give my very best in everything I do.

Thanks for reading! See you Monday!
