Halloween night was good. Had a bunch of little kids, but early....maybe 6:30 to 7: And not nearly as many as a decade or so ago.
The community events at the mall, the college dome etc. perhaps are the safer and just as fun alternative for a lot of parents. Warmer, too.

Happy Halloween, All! I hope it's fun, uneventful, and safe for everyone. I have been Sooo busy, really since mid-August. I manage to watch DWTS on Mondays, but the only other "recreation" is dancing and working out to get ready for Sway.
Had to leave the office early yesterday. We heard a noise in the crawl space and thought we might have rodents. So we called an exterminator. Turns out no rodents living there, but there WAS a large infestation of brown recluse spiders! Yuk! Fortunately, we hadn't seen any in the space where we work and apparently they hibernate except in the summer months. But they fumigated the whole place yesterday afternoon, so it could be closed up over the weekend. It'll probably be lovely on Monday. We put any food that was open (ie. bag of sugar, coffee, cookies) in the refrigerator, and we turned the heat off and shut all the vents. And I thought termites were bad! Actually, give me a mouse! I can deal with that!
Starting to panic as Sway approaches. I have 5 sessions left (maybe a 6th) with my trainer, 11 days to swim, and 5 more dance lessons before I leave for a conference on the 18th of November to return on Thanksgiving Friday for 3 days, and then to leave again for Miami on Dec. 1. And to top it all off, I came home Thursday night to a summons for jury duty, starting Nov. 30. Yeah, right! I told them I would be traveling heavily through mid-March, but would be happy to serve after that. I've had it postponed before twice before I was able to go and then was not chosen to serve, so I'm hopeful they will postpone it again. My hubby said it was karma for me talking about (he calls it bragging) Sway so much at our dance studio. If he would let me talke about it to him, I wouldn't have to, but my fellow dance students at least appreciate my excitement.
And the happiest news this week is that I became a "grandma!" My older son adopted a beautiful 4-yr-old rescue St. Bernard named Sammy. You can see his picture on my page at instagram.com/tango.dancer.75
Well, I'm heading back to the kitchen. Homemade onion soup for lunch. My spaghetti sauce and meatballs with homemade maple applesauce for desert. I'm on a roll today!
Happy Halloween to you Tango...
I am getting excited for you too!!!! Can't wait to hear from you during and after SWAY and see some of the pics and hopefully you will be in some of the videos again this time....
Spiders...well I guess if you were going to have them Halloween would be the perfect time... Hope they are all gone the first of the week...
Congratulations on the new addition to your family...Sammy is beautiful!!! I know he will be loved.
Well stop by and see us on Monday night if you ever get a chance...We miss you!!!!

The popcorn balls turned out great. I haven't been able to find a replacement for my flooded recipe...written on a card in my older sister's hand, from the late 50's. Called Jolly Time Popcorn Balls from their canister.
I had seen some on line - called Jolly Time's original but they weren't what I remembered. And the syrup cooked only to 270 degrees. Which would give you a too chewy "pull out my fillings" to quote my mother, result.
I was going to adapt one I saw...and then stumbled on to one that seemed just exactly what I remembered. Cooked to the hard-crack stage (302) and more butter.
Annie, mine are not so cute as the ones pictured...simply in a sandwich bag and tied with orange ribbon. But what a cute idea with the tootsie roll stem.
And you are right. I don't hand them out to the kids at the door...unless we know each other well. They are mostly for my family and disappear fast. I also make them for Christmas with different food coloring.
View they sound yummy...we all love popcorn balls here and if you would like to share your recipe that would be wonderful...
