Dancing with the Stars Season 22 – PRO WATCH!!
It’s that time of year again and who knows what kind of funky will go down this season. Will Derek finally hang up his DWTS shoes? Will Artem get hosed again in favor of the ever annoying Val? Will Sasha finally get his chance? Will Sharna continue to follow in the wrong footsteps, making unwise statements? Who will take Allison’s spot? These questions and more will hopefully be answered soon. :-)

I don’t want to hear about Jenna being dance captain. I think that is likely decided among the dancers themselves and I doubt it has any significance in regard to the show – maybe she’ll be a pro, maybe she won’t. Derek and Julianne’s dance captain was someone you’ve likely never heard of. So what?

Kristyn Burtt claims that the pros have been told rehearsals start on February 22 – it remains to be seen if that is true or if it actually happens. Last season was so…fluid…that we’ll have to wait and see. I do think we’ll start to hear stuff from those with a lack of ability to keep their mouths shut. :-) There are some Derek fans that worry his media sweep happening next week will include an announcement about his status. The media sweep is because of Disneyland 60 – if an announcement happens, it will likely be that he’s out. If he says nothing or hems and haws, it might be that he’s in. He’s a tough call, as usual.

ETA: Sad to report that I may have just discovered that Derek is going to be a pro on this season. Since just yesterday he sounded like he was out, this may be a new development. Anyway, he was scheduled to be in Iowa next Friday the 26th. The group hosting him just announced that it had to be rescheduled to the following week due to Derek’s “contractural obligations”. What, you might ask, could he be contracted to?? Well, DWTS. GMA is in LA doing a Pre-Oscar show on the 26th. Coincidence? I kinda doubt it, unfortunately. Normally the cast is announced the Tuesday AFTER the Oscars…but Derek’s schedule change is interesting to say the least.

Also, recently, Mark, Val and Sharna have all implied the intend to be on this season – that is not a confirmation, though, as they’ve said similar things before just meaning they will be there if they get a partner. But that does answer the Mark question. He wants to be there.

ETA2: Tom Bergeron told DWTSGossip that the cast announcement is NOT on the 26th – but the mystery regarding Derek’s obligations continues….

Sorry kids, the news is coming hard and fast this morning, so I’ve stepped in to help Vogue & Heidi a bit – and bear with me, because I’m hearing this 3rd-hand 

 Apparently UFC Strawweight fighter Paige VanZant just started following @DancingABC on Twitter:
 

She also follows Mark (and Mark follows back), but it looks like they’ve been following each other for awhile.  Source said that Paige’s agent apparently dropped some hints about her doing the show on Twitter, but I’ve been unable to locate any tweets from anyone in any sort of “official” capacity (if any of you want to go digging, be my guest – just take screen shots  ).  Apparently she’s got some dance background – according to Wikipedia, her parents owned a dance studio when she was growing up, and she spent 13 years studying jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. She’s also posted some videos on Instagram of her busting a move:

Thoughts? She’s super cute, seems like a fun personality, looks like she’s got some skills (and may be able to give Jodie a run for her money), and seems like she’s got a good work ethic. I’m all for it – seems like she’d be a good fit for either Mark or Artem. Only question I’ve got: when does the UFC “season” run? The only precedent we have for UFC fighters on DWTS is Chuck Liddell & Randy Couture, and I think both were already retired when they did the show. Not sure if she’d be able to do both DWTS and UFC, but admittedly, I don’t really follow UFC…so I know very little about how their schedule works :-)
