ummmmmm......can I skip those??????After I read "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" out loud to my daughter's (She is my eldest and lives about three hours away from CEK and 90 min from Eastcoast) second grade class, I had a Mr. Tumnus Tea party at which I also served MnM's and potato chips as stand ins for Turkish Delight, which I then did not know how to make but do now. Only a couple of children were adventurous and brave enough to eat the sardines on toast. The rest politely said, "No thank you." and skipped it.
When I was in grade school.... we had a teacher who made Stone Soup for us.
Remember that tale?
I remember that from my kids' school but not from my own! I probably wasn't paying attention that day!! LOL

Yup--toad in the hole (or sausage toad) is sausages cooked in a batter in the oven...it's like a sausage Yorkshire pudding almost. It's an evening meal...very cheap to make. I like it!

April, I think it is you who said something about not having made tea this way before. I was in Borders bookstore (when there still was one here in DeKalb) and told a friend about heating the tea pot with boiling water before you brew the actual tea and the huge difference this makes in the flavor. I was telling the friend because she wanted to know why the tea she had at my house was so different from her tea. Ten or so days later I was back at Borders, and a lady I did not know stopped me. She had overheard what I said to the friend, didn't believe me but decided to heat the pot first with the boiling water just to prove her point. She stopped me because she was so surprised at how differently it tasted and wanted to say "thank you." It was a lovely gesture.

Did the can have a photo on it?? It is hilarious whenever someone says it!!! It's like a plum pudding, I guess the can shape gives it the "dick" part....and the spots are from raisins or some such dried fruit that is visible on the outside. They serve it with something like a thin frosting or custard. Can't remember which. It's been a while since I've had it!!!!!!
