It seems proper to simply let best wishes for April and our niece be the content of the day.
But I did want to respond to gabriele about the beets! lol
Yes, they are beetroots that we are talking about. Simply called beets here in the US. I like them cooked and buttered. I like them pickled (sweet and with some cloves) and this summer I learned to make a complicated but delicious borscht because I had bought a few beets at the farmers market.
And they are SUPER good for you.

I also wanted to say to KOS....
I think you should write a memoir. Or perhaps a biography of your parents / grandparents. If the little tidbits we hear from you are any indication, I think you and maybe moreso they have led a very interesting life. And it would be something special for your children and grandchildren - if no one else.
I suspect gabriele has quite a story to tell, too!! Moving 1/2 way around the world, etc.

View: I was going to mention what you did that what we call beets are called beetroot in much of the rest of at least the western world. I think we Americans are in the minority on the abbreviated name because at least in England, they are call beetroot....also in Australia and perhaps in all of western Europe?
I'm with you also on the ways to eat them....we eat them any way they come! I also cook the greens with the sliced beets when I steam them. Interesting info in the link. Thanks for that! We shall eat them even more often!
Actually organic beets are one of the least expensive organic vegetables available here in CA. Could it be because they aren't that popular?! LOL Most people I know say they don't like them. Probably many haven't even tried them!
Enough about beets!!

Let me say Good Morning...before it is no longer morning.
My bed time reading is a book about 1940's Africa. The author is the daughter of a British overseer in what is now Botswana when it was a British protectorate. Yet, it is a very personal story of her upbringing...her relationship (or non relationship) with her mother, father, boarding schools, natives. I don't know if I can read it to the end, unless something good happens soon to off set the depressing.
But Africa itself is her refuge and peace. So here is your morning photo.

I am trying to take care of so many different matters, so that I can fly to Arizona in 5 days - with nothing on my plate but enjoyment.
I'll pop in later.

Just a quick hello while I eat my lunch and avoid putting away the groceries. April, how is our niece today?
