Nope, baby #2 was born on my 35th birthday. She was late and had to be induced.

My dad is a "ham" and taught us morse code at night when he was putting us to bed. When I got married, he and I commuted in opposite directions on the same highway, and he gave me a rig for my car (without a microphone) so I could listen to the hams talking about the traffic. I got bored just listening, so I got my license. I studied the question bank and passed the novice test. The code part isn't mandatory any more, but I was able to pass it! Then I went back and got a technical license, which is the one I needed to be able to talk on my dad's rig.
Great "ham" story, vmmm! Is there anything particular that requires that license anymore--or is it just a token to hang on the wall now?! All the truckers use their phones now, I assume. We used to have a CB radio in our previous van but we didn't use it much in the end because there was nothing to listen to anymore!! LOL
Oh, yes, people still use their ham radios. In our state it is illegal to use a phone while driving, but you can use a ham radio. Unfortunately, I had to take mine out because the frequency messed with my airbag sensors, somehow. Ham radios can also be used in emergencies, when cell towers aren't working. there are also ham radio contests. And, I think hams still work at events like races. Funny story, when I was young, we were on a family drive and were listening to communication about a bike race, and they couldn't find one of the racers. He happened to be my cousin. We were freaking out. If I recall correctly, he just went home after the race without telling anyone.

How interesting, vmmm!! It's also illegal in CA to use a phone while driving (doesn't mean people don't do it!). I didn't think about hams working at races and being used for emergencies, but it would make sense. So thanks in advance to those who have ham radios when everything goes dark!
Funny about your cousin! Glad he was ok, tho.
