Re: Really? Red over Pink?

1)  Given name - was meant to be 'Evelyn', but that got 'taken' by a cousin just before I was born, so I got what was fashion at the time.
2)  Sandwich - mixed meat, grated carrot, fresh coriander leaves and a bit of alfalfa sprouts
3) Tonsils - yep, still all parts present
4) Bungee jumping - not these days, but would certainly have earlier on
5) Spelunking - any day, as long as it doesn't involve crawling into the smallest spaces
6) Cereal - I don't eat cereal now, but when I did some 30 or so years ago,  I hand-milled grains and soaked them over night
7) Shoe laces - I haven't used shoes with laces in years.  But not always when I did.
8) Ice cream - coffee-flavoured or sultana-liquor-flavour
9) Red - I don't wear it much, but it is one of my room accent colours
10) Cat/Dog - Dog, by a mile
11) Movies - I think I have seen Miracle on 38th Street with my eldest when he was little, but don't remember it really.  Don't know the other one.
12) Scary/happy ending - Can't pick.  Talked about 'cult' movies with my eldest yesterday, suggesting he sees 'Harold and Maud'.  One of the lovers dies, but is it a happy ending nonetheless?
13) Book - reading short stories by John Updike atm.
14) Mouse pad - n/a
15) Shoe colour - black
16) Favourite smell - sandal wood
17) Crayon colour - I didn't have Crayola.  Faber Castell is the 'thing' where I come from.
18) Mountain/lake/ocean - mountain.  I grew up at the edge of the Alps and we live on a hill now.  Different energy to me.
19) Sport to watch - figure skating
20) Active sport - some skiing, hiking and hang gliding, no team sport.
21) Natural hair colour - 'mousey' brown, a lighter shade of brown
22) Favourite vacation destination - something 'cultural' on my own.  By the water, if with kidlets.

Ah, it is. It's the first day of autumn! A time for hot chocolatety mornings, and toasting marshmallow evenings, as best of all, leaping into *leaves*!

Re: Really? Red over Pink?

Just a couple of things.
Yes, I would characterize my natural hair color as mousy brown or dirty blonde too.  Or “dishwater” blonde as we used to call it.   When it first started going gray at the temples and streaks here and there, I loved it  -  early 50’s.  By my early 60’s there was too much white in the front and too dark still in back so I started “low-lighting” it in front. Worked for a while.  Now, in my late 60’s, I’m ready to actually color it….am just undecided what color to try.  Same ol’, same ol’? or something dramatically different!! And I’m hoping that in another few years it will be white enough to let go natural.

My favorite sandwich for a loooong time – that I fixed for myself almost every lunch break from work – mimicked what the health food down the street served and called the “Black and White”   Coarse, wholegrain bread.  Cream cheese.  Finely chopped black olives.  Lots of alfalfa sprouts.

That was kind of fun.  Surprises?   Tango's Frosted Flakes for me.

Did everyone get a chance to play?  Booky?   Niecey?

Re: Really? Red over Pink?

I'm having a little flashback.  When I was a child we always used "peach" crayon for the flesh color of skin.

When my children were small, I think their box of Crayolas had a crayon named "flesh"  -   pretty similar shade.

Subsequently I believe, "flesh" as "skin color" was deemed a little too politically incorrect as you can imagine.

Have no idea what the colors are named these days..

Update:  Wikipedia has a History of Crayola Crayons article.  LOL

Some of my favorites were retired in 1990  And peach is back to being peach.

Re: Really? Red over Pink?

My claim to fame.  I do not have my tonsils.  It seems that all the rest of you do.  And here I thought that it was SOP for all of us who are now 60 or older to have our tonsils removed.  I am now guessing that it was a thing that the Chinese doctors felt should be taken out.  I still remember the surgery, scarey because a mask was put over my face to administer the ether.  The plus side----lots and lots of attention.

When my daughter was younger we actually went to the Crayola Factory in Easton PA...I love crayons and still have my daughter old box here...It was a fun visit...back then there were a lot of interactive things there.  My daughter shares my love of art and drawing and coloring....LOL  When I was younger I hated messing up the points on the new box of crayons...I think now Crayola is owned by Hallmark...hmmmm
