Smelling scratch baked German chocolate cake coming from my oven! Tomorrow we are going to SD to treat everyone to a special, early 12th birthday celebration for our eldest granddaughter (her birthday is the 30th). Taking the cake with us so I can stack and frost it down there (it will travel better that way, I think!
). This is the cake that most everyone in our entire family requests that I bake them for their birthdays but granddaughter doesn't know I'm doing one for her (first time). She loves to bake and she is also a chocoloholic!!
We are all then going for an early (4:30) dinner at a nice Italian restaurant (taking the cake for dessert) near the civic theatre, then heading to the 6:30PM performance of The Lion King. Haven't seen that one since it played at the Pantages in LA somewhere around 2001 or thereabouts. Hoping this will be a memorable celebration for a special young lady (who is loving playing ice hockey on a girls team these days!). I asked her what she might like for her birthday and she said an Amazon gift card....so that's what she'll be getting from us! Keeping up with her brother, I think. He'd saved up some money and got to order a couple Lego sets from Amazon recently. She doesn't spend her money....she's a saver....but she will spend a gift card!! LOL
Planning to drive home after the show...so it will be a long day and a late nite, but traffic shouldn't be bad either going or coming....*fingers crossed*.
Guess hubby will be headed this way from his day at the hangar so need to begin fixing some dinner! The cake smells so, so good....hopefully it will survive intact till tomorrow!!! LOL
Have a great evening, everyone!
XOXOXOXOJet that is my hubby's all time favorite cake...
My hubby's too! This one came out REALLY nice. Most of the time they sort of bake off to one side, but I added an additional 1/2 c flour and was very careful folding in the first 1/3 of the beaten egg whites. They are still in the pans (till I put them together) but they didn't fall as much as they have sometimes in the past. So need to remember those things for next time!! LOL
Do you remember the round cake pans that have the little gizmo attached to the center of the pan, attached to the edge, that you move around the pan to loosen the cake from the bottom? I have 2 of those old things that came from my mom's kitchen...and I will never get rid of them!! Just wish I had one more. Maybe I'll happen across one in an antique store sometime. Blast from the past....and why they don't make them anymore, I will never know!!

Oh my gosh Jet I remember them and had my moms until the last one actually broke...I don't know why they stopped making them...sometime those "older models" are better than the new...

Well I have returned from Kaleb's first Wrestling Tournament...
It was "Club Wrestling" with teams from other city clubs...
The high school team that his daddy helps with was there to compete and they were there to cheer Kaleb on...I thought he did really well considering this was his first match. He lost the first match by points, the second by being pinned, he won the third match by pinning his opponent and lost the last match by being pinned. He actually go hurt in the last match. (they had to talk to the other coach about the illegal move) He got it together and went back and finished the match. He came in 4th, and wasn't to happy with the outcome but the other boys had been wrestling about 2 years and this is Kaleb's first year.
He was staying to watch the rest of the high school team compete and he was able to see some of them win and some of them loose...it is all part of the game...and wrestling during practice is totally different than actually in a competition...
