I was the “baby of the family” – born 8 years later than the youngest of the older three.
It seemed to me growing up (they in high school) that they all had areas of excellence and achievement they could call their own. My heart-throb brother, a superb athlete; my genius sister, a recognized artist; the stylish sister, her beautiful and powerful soprano voice.
It never occurred to me to be anything other than my well-rounded, multi-talented self. ( “Are you going to major in art?” Oh, no, my sister has the artistic talent. Voice? No, no…I am not comfortable performing for a crowd. and how would one make a living…?)
But we do all have some drawing and artistic talent. And I mean that I see it even in Auntie above me, and a couple of my grandchildren. No matter what it is, what a true gift it is to be blessed with an ability that allows for creative expression. And results in beauty. Literature, art, music, dance…
Certainly practicality, marriage, raising children, making a living - they do get in the way of devoting much time to such matters. When my children were very young I had a couple of photographs of each that I just loved. I did large pastels using those photos as inspiration, framed and on their bedroom walls.. This lead to 3 friends of mine asking me if I would please do the same for them. And I did. A very little money changed hands…we were all young.
But see? Now it had become work. A job. I was commissioned by a friend to make a sign for her business. And her brother asked if I could do a large copy of the work by Harry Anderson – Jesus knocking at the door of the United Nations building. Sure.
So here we are 40 years later. I am looking to bring artistic expression back in to my life in the form of my most favorite medium. Because of its difficulty / maddening unpredictability / and ethereal beauty I love WATERCOLORS.
How true is everything you said View...I did the same things when my children were young...did some art pieces and sold them for pennies actually in todays time just to make some extra money...I also taught a few classes at a local shop. But as "real life" got more hurried I packed away my art things only to doodle here and there and now like you I want to do more....my favorite medium is colored pencils...but I do love acrylics...I have only dabbled in watercolors.

That was an ambitious project, view. You have my respect! We did watercolour to render jewellery designs only. Took me quite some time to get even a little control over it and it's not my favourite technique. I did a year of painting at art school, but mostly acrylic and oil. We once had to do a series of four self-portraits, choosing styles of artists. You could recognise the van Gogh's, the Picasso's ect. I did a Georgia O'Keeffe, painting myself as a smiling human skull with a pink hibiscus flower behind my ear. Let's just say, the reactions were priceless. That's a real O'Keeffe, my self-portrait inspiration.
I still find it amazing that we all in the Sisterhood have some little something that connects us to one another...art, quilting, gardening, DWTS, children, grandchildren and so many other things ... what a wonderful circle of friendship we have made!!!!

Hope everyone's weekend was good...we had a chilly one her in VA...the 80-90 degree weather has left for a few days...in the 60's and low 70's this week...more like this time of year should be here...but the warm was nice...
Well today is SHOW DAY and I am having such a time deciding who to pick for the chart...I will ponder it for a few more minutes and then throw a few darts and see what happens....

anonymous asked:
Simone has a paso trio tomorrow & it will probably be a hard style for her. She has had trouble with her facial expressions apart from smiling. Last season Sasha had trouble to get Terra (who's a seasoned entertainer) to project the necessary intensity of paso. This dance may keep her from the finale

Just a little chatter from Tumblr:
Talking about Brittany from the Troupe!!!
We’ll seeeeee! I also think Brittany is a less than stellar choice so in some ways I’m disappointed but in some ways it may help Simone out because I really don’t think Brittany will wash Simone out that bad, I don’t think she’s that strong.anonymous asked:I have a feeling that Britt may be a pro before Brittany, she has a spark that makes you look at her I agree. I think Brittany is hanging on by the skin of her teeth rn. But as we know, the tide can always turn!
anonymous asked: Are you fan of brittany? Im just curious to know lol No. She’s gorgeous in contemporary but other than the she doesn’t stand out to me at all. Not in personality either. I don’t think she’s a good fit for DWTS.
anonymous asked: What's wrong with Brittany? Just curious as some don't like her as much as other troupes I just have no interest in her, doesn’t stand out to me at all (besides contemp).
I think the troupe...all of them are really good and sometime don't get the credit they deserve....
Just my opinion!!!

I wonder what this was all about???
You know I must say that this season for some reason had stirred up more hate and negative post and chatter that I can remember in seasons past...I just don't understand the point. Now don't get me wrong there are stars and pros that I am not particulary fond of or like but I would never get post anything like some people have posted about them. They are down right mean and for some reason act like they are personally connected with them in some way...my goodness these Anons and Tumblrs have way to much time on their hands to be promoting such negativity about a television show when the show for me is about doing something outside your normal comfort zone, learing someting new and going to a place in your life you never thougth possible...Growing and hopefully showing someone that you can do anything you put you mind, body and spirit in. There have been stars on the show that have shown that age is just a number, that you can turn a negative part in your life to something positive, that a disability is only that if you let it be and that you can come from near death to be not only alive but learing to dance.
I mean you can dislike someone but to me this is actually "hate" and almost a form of "bullying" in a way!!! There is enought "bad" things happening in the world that you have to put your effort into negativity instead of into making it a positive statement.
Makes not sense to me...

I just want to say something...
I don’t support Bonner because he’s attractive or because he’s Sharna’s partner. I support him and vote for him because I understand what he deals with Day in and day out. I understand what it’s like to have pain everyday. I don’t have anywhere near as much pain daily as I’m sure he does, however I have a severe back problem that will never go away that cause pain a lot of the time. I support Bonner because he shows that it’s important to keep going and do things that are hard when you have to over come something like chronic pain. I don’t dance through my pain like him, but I’ve done martial arts since I was 5 and continued on even after my back problems become apparent. I tend to animals, ride horses, and do everyday things through pain some times. I understand what he had to go through everyday. THATS why I support him and defend him. It has nothing to do with Sharna, him being a bull rider, him being attractive or any of the other a million reason I’m sure people have. Yes I it’s convenient that’s he’s partnered with my favorite pro, but even if he wasn’t I would still vote for him.
