We're not a bit of Irish, but then "everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day" right?  (granddaughter has a 1/4 of Scotch/Irish in her now that I think about it)

Do any of you cook or bake special for the day?  I'd love some recipes or ideas.

I believe my maternal great-grandfather was Irish but some say Scottish...we have not been able to find documentation so far on that.  We have heard stories his family was from Belfast (of course they would be) His last name was McGowan..they were living in Liverpool when my grandmother was born.

I have done Rubens but I could eat them anytime...I am going to cook a corned beef this year and make some.  I may cook some cabbage and potatoes but I will be the only one that eats the cabbage since my son left home.  I was going to do some mint brownies but I found a recipe for Irish Coffee Pudding and they put it is a Irish Coffee Mug...sounded good...I don't drink anymore but I do like a good Irish Coffee when we go to Downtown Disney and eat at Ragland Road.  I also have a recipe I got from them on one of our visits for their Brown Bread with Guinness Reduction you can dip it in and it is really really good...

My daughter and her hubby actually visited Ireland with a group from the college and they loved it there.  I would so like to visit there and England.  Maybe one day...

Ah, it is. It's the first day of autumn! A time for hot chocolatety mornings, and toasting marshmallow evenings, as best of all, leaping into *leaves*!

Well....my laryngitis is improving, as is the "deaf ear" (still not completely cleared, tho), but now hubby has a sore throat and is hacking off and on. Great timing, of course....right before a long plane flight!

Oh Jet...so sorry hubby is not feeling great...but so glad you are on the mend.  Again I hope "mother nature" will be kind to the east coast while you are out here...

I try to do corned beef and cabbage because it is always on sale and we love it....and like to have enough corned beef left over to make hash with the remainder. St Patrick's day is between hubby (3/28) and son's (3/10) birthdays so sometimes I do...of all things!...German chocolate cake (scratch)...if we are celebrating their birthdays (Germ. Choc. Cake is the family favorite). We don't always get together for their birthdays but sometimes it is convenient to do so in conjunction with another activity or for a special birthday either here or in San Diego. This year we will all be in Maryland on the 17th. I do have a cousin who was born on St. Patrick's day---and my younger younger brother (now deceased) was born on March 18.

Well happy late birthday to your son and happy early birthday to your hubby...German Chocolate is my hubbys favorite in the world...

Okay sisters.......please check the chart to see if I missed any of your guesses.

Top of the leader board is Simone/Sasha for me.  Thanks Luv.
Do we need first 10 already?  I can't imagine that it is given out in week one, so I leave it until we see the couples on Monday, unless you have another deadline, Luv.

Not sure I'll have time for my brain to figure all of this out as this is the week I have to get everything together for income taxes. However, I think the first to go home will be Charo and Keo (unless people think she is hilarious and want to keep her around.

I was torn between Charo and Keo and Peta and Nick to go home first...You are right the fans may love her and her antics...

When church was over yesterday (5:30 mass) our priest announced that we can eat meat during the next Friday in Lent because it's St. Patrick' Day! I rarely eat meat anyway, so this decision won't affect me.

My favorite St. Pat's dessert is "Grasshopper Pie"; it can be made different ways, but I do it with marshmallows. Also, this from Helen Corbitt's cookbook (if you know who she was, I'll be shocked! Booky may know). In Helen's words, "If you find yourself without time or inclination to make a desert, compromise with 'Grasshopper.' My way? 1 jigger creme de menthe, 1 jigger brandy, 1 scoop vanilla ice cream. Put in an electric blender."

I may have to look that recipe up Annie...sounds good and I like Grasshopper Pie too!!

Nick Viall Says Dancing Is Not One Of His Hidden Talents, But, He’s Excited To Do DWTS

Tonight is the finale of The Bachelor. As you know. Nick Viall will do Dancing With The Stars next and he’s ready for this nect chapter. Here is a quote from 24 Hours In Vancouver.

After Monday night’s Bachelor season 21 finale airs, the 36-year-old Wisconsin native will hit the dance floor for the Season 24 opener of Dancing With the Stars with partner Peta Murgatroyd on March 20.

“It’s something I’m going to work hard on,” said Viall, who was also on the Bachelorette twice and Bachelor in Paradise once.

“I have a lot of excitement,” added Viall who claims dancing is not one of his hidden talents. “I don’t know what to expect. I want to have a lot of fun but I’m also taking it seriously. I’m going to try my best and it sounds like an amazing experience so I’m really excited to see what will happen.”

Friendship is a priceless gift that can't be bought or sold, its value is far greater than a mountain made of gold.
May this FriendSHIP always have wind in its sails and a sunrise on the horizon.

Re: SEASON 24 is knocking at our door...

I saw this recipe I think I'll make for my friend - have her down for a drink and some conversation.  The one who had the hip surgery.  We haven't seen much of each other for one reason or another just lately.  She is 1/2 Irish.

This would be very similar to what Annie posted.

  • Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until drink has the consistency of a good milk shake.
  • fresh mint leaves (to garnish)

Hi, everyone. Gabriele, if you're still out there, Happy Birthday! I'm tutoring right now but popping in when I have a lull. D2 had her first official robotics competition with her new team. They did a good job.

I am behind in my guesses! When does the season start? Is it next week?

I hope everyone is well. Sending hugs to April and Niecey.

Good to here from you Vmmm..
Glad D2 did good with her competition and the new team.
No you are not behind on the guesses, we are just doing some pre-show guesses and waiting till we watch the first show to see how things are looking...Yep it starts next Monday night...Hope you can join us!!!

vmmmom you could guess now who will be first to go home.  Luv is giving us 2 chances at that - before we see the first show, and then after...for 2 chances for points.
