Here is the link to the Irish Coffee Pudding from Carla Hall on the Chew...
...and here is the recipe for the Irish Brown Bread with Guinness ReductionRecipes
Irish Brown Bread with Guinness Reduction
Raglan Road
Makes 1 (3-pound) loaf
Irish Brown Bread
6 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 1/2 cups rolled oats, divided
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
4 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup Guinness
1/4 cup molasses
Guinness Reduction
2 cups Guinness
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup olive oil, for service
For Irish brown bread:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9 1/2x5x3-inch loaf pan or a 9×9 square pan; set aside.
2. Combine all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, 1 cup rolled oats, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl.
3. Whisk together buttermilk, Guinness, and molasses in a medium bowl.
4. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture in three batches, mixing and folding dough by hand lightly; the mixture should be sticky.
5. Transfer dough to prepared pan and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup oats, pressing lightly to adhere.
6. Bake until bread is golden brown and makes a hollow sound when top is tapped, about 40 to 50 minutes.
7. Remove from pan and cool slightly before serving. Serve with Guinness Reduction and olive oil.
For Guinness reduction:
1. Combine the Guinness and sugar in a medium saucepan.
2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer. Note: Do not leave the pot unattended while it is coming to a boil, as it may boil over.
3. Simmer until mixture is reduced by half and is thick and syrup-like, about 1 hour.
4. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature
5. For service, place 1/4 cup olive oil in a saucer or small plate. Drizzle with 1/4 cup Guinness Reduction.
6. Refrigerate any remaining reduction for up to 2 weeks.

We're not a bit of Irish, but then "everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day" right? (granddaughter has a 1/4 of Scotch/Irish in her now that I think about it)
Do any of you cook or bake special for the day? I'd love some recipes or ideas.I believe my maternal great-grandfather was Irish but some say Scottish...we have not been able to find documentation so far on that. We have heard stories his family was from Belfast (of course they would be) His last name was McGowan..they were living in Liverpool when my grandmother was born.
I have done Rubens but I could eat them anytime...I am going to cook a corned beef this year and make some. I may cook some cabbage and potatoes but I will be the only one that eats the cabbage since my son left home. I was going to do some mint brownies but I found a recipe for Irish Coffee Pudding and they put it is a Irish Coffee Mug...sounded good...I don't drink anymore but I do like a good Irish Coffee when we go to Downtown Disney and eat at Ragland Road. I also have a recipe I got from them on one of our visits for their Brown Bread with Guinness Reduction you can dip it in and it is really really good...
My daughter and her hubby actually visited Ireland with a group from the college and they loved it there. I would so like to visit there and England. Maybe one day...
Well, CEK, you aren't missing anything if you aren't Scottish. I didn't have the "guts" (pardon the pun!) to try haggis when we were in Scotland! Just sounded too gross!!
I love Irish coffee; my parents went thru an Irish coffee kick for some years. So when they visited, we'd have one in the evening before supper. I'd love to try the Irish Coffee Pudding!

Well....my laryngitis is improving, as is the "deaf ear" (still not completely cleared, tho), but now hubby has a sore throat and is hacking off and on. Great timing, of course....right before a long plane flight!

Oh Jet...so sorry hubby is not feeling great...but so glad you are on the mend. Again I hope "mother nature" will be kind to the east coast while you are out here...
Thanks, CEK....he seemed a bit perkier this evening, although he didn't do much today. His throat is starting out as mine did....no sinus....just something in the throat. This morning his voice was very low and scratchy, but improved as the day went on. My luck would be that he catches whatever I had!!

Top of the leader board is Simone/Sasha for me. Thanks Luv.
Do we need first 10 already? I can't imagine that it is given out in week one, so I leave it until we see the couples on Monday, unless you have another deadline, Luv.
Not sure I'll have time for my brain to figure all of this out as this is the week I have to get everything together for income taxes. However, I think the first to go home will be Charo and Keo (unless people think she is hilarious and want to keep her around.
I was torn between Charo and Keo and Peta and Nick to go home first...You are right the fans may love her and her antics...
I'm figuring (probably wrongly!) that Peta's partner may be a problem.

Oh, and yes, CEK. we're getting hit with the Nor'easter tomorrow.
It is really cold here in VA too and looks like snow...they say we may get some flurries on Wednesday...my daughter in DC said they are expecting snow tomorrow too!!!
Hoping it doesn't interfere with air travel by Thursday!! I'm more concerned about the possibility of (stupid) protestors at LAX than snow in DC!!! LOL. You just deal with snow when it happens; protestors I have little patience for when what they are doing won't change how the law works but rather just anger those whom they directly impact (who have no ability to change things anyway).

I saw this recipe I think I'll make for my friend - have her down for a drink and some conversation. The one who had the hip surgery. We haven't seen much of each other for one reason or another just lately. She is 1/2 Irish.
This would be very similar to what Annie posted.
- 3/4ounce creme de menthe, green
- 3/4ounce white Creme de Cacao
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream
- 2 ice cubes
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- Mix all ingredients together in a blender and blend until drink has the consistency of a good milk shake.
- fresh mint leaves (to garnish)
Looks and sounds wonderful, View!

So....for anyone who is wondering, I had a brief but much appreciated phone call from gunner this morning....from....where else?!.....a quilt shop that is going out of business near her! She is doing fine and sends her greetings to everyone on the mb. The shop still had some flannel wolf fabric I've collected for a quilt...but I already have the fabric. One of these days I will get that quilt put together!! LOL. It is kind've one of my many UFO's, although I haven't actually started it yet. I did make one for son and DIL for Christmas....and think I'd like one for us.
So many projects.....so little time!!! Lol
