Sharna got Bobby Bones, who used to live here in Austin where he had a radio show. He auditioned (was her partner for a day) for the spot with Kelly Ripa that went, at first, to Michael. Bobby moved to Nashville after that, but when he's back Austin and wants a haircut, he goes to the salon where I get manicures, etc. I saw him there one day and told him I thought he did great with Kelly. He was friendly and sweet. He was one of the Miss America 2019 judges last weekend (along with Carrie Ann Inaba, the host). I hadn't watched Miss America for many years, 15 or 20. I wanted Miss Florida to win but didn't care that much. Miss New York, the winner, was my 2nd choice. I won't watch it again -- waste of time, for me.

How cool....you "know one of the stars".  Will you have to split your votes with him and Gleb & his partner? LOL  I am not sure I will vote this season, but will just see how it goes.  I always liked Mary Lou, so she might be a favorite of mine, but who knows. LOL

On Miss America, I haven't watched that in years.  I did hear that they cut out the swim suit competition.  Do you have any views or feelings on that?

BTW..........ANYONE.........when DOES the DWTS season start?

Ha Ha! Bobby wouldn't know me at all; I didn't even introduce myself, and I wouldn't know him from just looking at a picture. I know who five of the celebs are, and that's it.  I have voted only one season -- 18 -- when Meryl and Maks were at the bottom of the leader board. I don't think we should be allowed to vote. Not upset that we can but just don't want to mess with that. I did miss the swimsuit part but am glad they did away with it.

I only know of 2 of the celebs, so guess I’m at the bottom of this ranking!!!  LOL

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. I haven't voted in a long time too.  I think I "massive" voted when Meryl was on the bottom. (online, several phones, ect. ......LOL)  I only know of three stars this season, so you "outrank" me there. LOL

I kind of enjoyed the swimsuit competition when I watched it as a kid, but now I kind of see why they got rid of it.  I could take it either way, but then again, I do not watch it anymore...so....really my opinion is mute. LOL !!!

I tend to vote on DWTS at least a few times during the season.  I was devoted to voting for MnM, tho!!!  LOL

I kinda think the swimsuit competition is a part of those pageants, but times and attitudes change and since I don’t watch them anyway, it doesn’t matter much to me either way.  I did enjoy watching them when I was a kid.  Not sure why, tho!  Maybe because I was the consummate tomboy so it was totally foreign to who I was and what I liked to do!!!   I will say my hubby, who doesn’t watch pageants either (!), said he didn’t like that they disposed of the swimsuit competition.... ....LOL....but I see that as kind’ve just a typical male!!!  LOL. LOL. And maybe that’s exactly why they did away with it!!!  I think it is kind’ve a blast from the past.  I can tell you, around the SoCal beaches you see ALL kinds, sizes, and shapes prancing around in way too skimpy swimsuits....and many of those suits are NOT pretty, if you get my drift!!!   . Same goes for men...although they have far fewer styles to choose from!!!

Re: Get ready for DWTS Season 27

Spent part of the today at the ice hockey rink!!  Yes, ice hockey season is just starting up!!!  The girls beat a boys team 7-1 last week at their rink in SD and today they beat another boys team 11-3 at a place (oldest rink in SoCal, I think!!) over by Disneyland!!  Granddaughter scored 2 goals and had 3 assists today.

Their coach knows the owner of a large hockey/baseball/softball/lacrosse sporting goods store where they could get a team discount of 15% after the game, so we spent some time hanging around there while the kids/parents shopped.  Coach’s daughter needed EVERYTHING, including skates!!  These girls are growing like crazy so parents wait till their daughter can barely put the gear on before they replace it!!!  At least the store was across the street from a pretty large strip mall with some reasonable restaurant choices where we had lunch.

The team is MUCH improved this season so far and it seems like everyone is getting along well and they are having fun!  In 2 weeks they play up here again (different rink) on the Sunday, which is our granddaughter’s 14th birthday.  Her teammates (not sure if all or only some) are giving her a surprise birthday party...taking her to Disneyland afterwards!  So that iwll be VERY exciting for her!!  Forgot to ask the time of the game, but hope it is early!!!

Well, it will soon be supper time so guess I need to put something together.

Hope you all are having a great Sunday!

April...how was your detour trip??  Hope you got there and back safely and had a great time!!!

Yep! It's a guy thing, liking the swimsuit part. Goes back to primitive times when men thought the women with the hourglass bodies were the most fertile. The Miss America Contest was first started to keep tourists coming to Atlantic city after Labor Day, so the swimsuit feature made perfect sense. Some of the celebs we see pics of at Malibu might as well be naked, in my opinion. To each his own.

Hi, Annie.....”guy thing” for sure!  Thanks for the history of why the swimsuit competition; one practical, the other visceral!!!  LOL. I agree about the Malibu celeb pics!!  I find it quite a juxtaposition that in today’s world women seem to think they can walk around almost naked and taunt male hormones, then cry foul when the males act like animals!  Not saying it is right for men to behave that way, but...really.....why the need to provoke that response?  You can’t convince me that women are so clueless there is no complicity!

My intent in any of this is not to provoke anger or dispute but rather to just look at it with a bit of common sense (another thing that is sorely lacking in today’s society!).  I know, in my era, my mother strongly stressed modesty in order not to get into situations that could end badly.  Always two sides to whatever the story is but being a pretty cautious and level headed person generally, I took her advice and acted accordingly.  No regrets....

Your mother was a wise woman and fortunate to have a daughter who listened to her!

I so agree with both of yours and Annie's comments of "covering up".  I guess, I just do not understand women, and even men to some degree, that feel the need to show as much as possible.

Re: Get ready for DWTS Season 27

Afternoon to all my "sisters" here.  It has been a weekend here.  Hope everyone is doing well and safe.
Thank you for all your thoughts.  I hope that the remnants as it moves inland doesn't effect any of you in its path.  Just heard there were tornadoes in Richmond VA...

We dodged the storm but so many of my neighbors, friends and myself have family in NC and have been concerned about their safety.  One of my friends has a daughter in Fayetteville, her husband is in the arm stationed there and the last I heard were completely isolated by the flooding.  I have a cousin near Morehead, NC but have not heard from them.  I have a niece and nephew in Durham, near Raleigh and my sister in law is at Lake Gaston she is fine.  We are now getting things together to send to a family that lost almost everything as their roof was ripped from their home, not 100% if it was flooded but their neighborhood was.

I then read about those that continue to disregard the warnings about driving through water and think how crazy they are.  As the report of the woman who's baby was swept out of her arms as she disregarded posted barricades (http://www.nbc-2.com/story/39104065/search-for-baby-boy-swept-away-by-flood-water-underway-in-nc).  I also am astonished by those that leave their pets/animals to fend for themselves in locked pens and homes as the flood waters rise (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/09/17/animals-rescued-from-florence-floodwaters-after-pets-left-behind-or-forgotten.html)    Humans have the common sense to leave when danger is on the way especially when you are planning for hurricanes there are days to prepare, but animals especially your pets are totally dependent on you to make sure they are safe.  It just makes me sick to see such behavior from humans.

Ok now that I have gone on with my "soapbox" speech, let me see what news I can dig up before I must start some supper....

Hi CEK,  Thanks for the new thread.  I hope you can check in sometime during the weekend and let us know how you are doing.  Hopefully, you will not get too much rain/wind where you are at.  "We" will be in the 90's today and even hotter next week.  I wonder were Fall went. LOL

Take care

Hey Luv thanks for thinking about me...We have gotten more wind and a bit of rain yesterday and today than when the hurricane came on shore.  We are in the mid 80's but the humidity is close to or in the 90%   I am so ready for Fall to come.  Everything here is so wet and mushy that you can't do much in the yard.  But on the bright side we haven't had to water the flowers much this summer...LOL
