Having an earthquake right now as I’m writing this!! GUNNER....DID YOU FEEL IT?? Still going...hanging lamp is swaying. Kind’ve a roller!!! Pretty significant somewhere, I suspect.
6.6 on the Richter scale in Searles Valley near Mojave/Ridgecrest near Death Valley. Not a heavily populated region out there...but for us to feel the intensity and rolling motion is kind’ve a big deal!!
Oh wow......how scary. Glad it wasn't in a too populated area. 6.6 is pretty big....right? Might even make the National news......hope you didn't have any damage.

Still here...it’s over here now....maybe lasted 20-30 seconds. Parade going on in Huntington Beach felt it also!!! LOL. Some guy who was up in Big Bear in the local mountains said they felt it for about 2 min., which is very long!! Of course, there are earthquakes all over here pretty much on a regular basis that are in the 3’s and we don’t feel them. That is the case all over the Southwest. We had them in NM when we were growing up as well. You’d feel them when lying on the floor...the bigger ones, which were probably 4 or less.

Jet......how do you protect your foundations from the cracks and such? We have never had earthquakes until recently and they are very, very small, sometimes you don't even know it....well, I have noticed cracks in the basement...….no earthquake insurance around here, so is there anything a person can do....I just thought I would ask the "quake expert". LOL

Wow, 2 mins in some places. Do you still get a little nervous when they happen or is it just a normal type of thing to you now? Still, I would think when you see things a rocking and rolling in your house....you think twice. LOL

This was a roller....those usually last a bit longer than the “jolt” type. I’m sure it’s “breaking news” on all the TV stations!! Our local ones were right ON IT! Saying it was 55 miles northwest of Barstow, which is about 90-100 miles from where we are here. Saying it could be a precursor to a larger one.....hmmm....LOL
Gunner felt it!!!

WOW !!!!!! That was a biggie.....hope that "the big one" isn't coming...lol.... To be able to feel it 100 miles away, and have things in your house swinging would unnerve me. So will there be "aftershocks" now? I will have to watch the news tonight and see if they mention it.

Media saying it could be a precursor for a bigger one. In the high desert but they aren’t saying how deep it was. Aftershakes are happening in the area near the epicenter.

Saying 8.7 kilometers down, which is very shallow as far as earthquakes go. Most of them are in the ocean and pretty deep.
