I’m not surprised it’s so close. The French have excellent skating skills and they also have a beautiful Free Dance. It could go either way between them and Chock/Bates for gold. There was no U.S. judge on the panel for this Rhythm Dance portion, but I believe there will be one for the Free Dance, so that should help Chock/Bates.

I am watching for the second time. lol Yes, the French are excellent skaters. I can see why they are on top, it is just when Chock/Bates have been winning almost everything, it still is a bit of a surprise to me. lol
Hopefully, they put down one of their best performances for the Free Dance, and as you say if there is a US judge on the panel, it should help......HATE to say that, but I know there are "politics" in EVERYTHING.
