Re: New Year - New Beginnings

MARCH 19, 2016 IS NATIONAL QUILTING DAY!!

In the morning I'll post a few photos.  Meanwhile, here is a panel quilt I recently finished for our youngest granddaughter who will be 3 in July.  Just what she'll need....a cozy quilt with wool batting...in the middle of summer!  Minnie's mouth looks a little wrinkled due to the loft of the wool batting!

Sweet dreams....until tomorrow!

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. That's a beautiful piece, Jet!  How long did you work on it?  I have never quilted as such, but I have done 'sensory walks' for an autism kindy we once used.  Is this by hand?  Well, Jet, until recently, I didn't think I would ever own a quilt, but you and Gunner's project back then got me interested.  So, when I saw a quilt in a thrift shop last week, I actually picked it up to have closer look, which I wouldn't have done in the past.  I ended up buying it.  I could not even say that the colour scheme or type goes with our decorating style (if I could call it that).  It came home with me out of admiration for the craftsmanship.  I will try to get a pic to share before official quilting day is over.

Re: New Year - New Beginnings

Glad you're home, April and hope you can be for a while longer.
Is this a new photo of Tango with Serge O.?   I can't believe our Tango is back in action so shortly after surgery!   You go girl!

Good Morning, sisters.

So happy that April and Niecey are home. And Happy Quilting Day.

Was lucky to find something to celebrate both!

I "see" you, gabriele.  Must be nearly bedtime for you.  I hope you and your family are well.  It is autumn in Australia...is your weather wonderful at this time of year?

That IS a current picture of Tango!  She is a marvel.

Re: New Year - New Beginnings

Well.

We shall have to nix the idea of boulevard landscaping for a while!   Apparently our city has to replace all the manholes and the drainage system in this older part of town ---  due to age and the flood.   I looked out our window to see what the "big equipment" noise was, and a huge forklift type thingy was busy transporting these things from their staging area about two blocks away.  When they were done for the day, our block and the blocks beyond looked like this:

I don't yet know the time frame....but I suspect our summer is going to be a "headache" of torn up streets, dirt, detours, and noise.

This is beautiful, Jet.  It will mean so much to her now, and as a keepsake.
I'm curious about the wool batting, though.  It sounds so luxurious and warm.  But will it need to be dry-cleaned therefore?  Or just washed in cold water?   I imagine a child's quilt will get soiled.

In honor of the day...here is one of my favorite types of quilt...from the olden days.  When folks made their own clothes, or had them made for them...there were always scraps of fabric around.  So these patchwork quilts with their decorative stitches between the pieces also were made of memories - -  the clothes, the events, the time in their life that the swatches represented.

One of the losses to the flood I most "resent" is a quilt of this type - mostly velvet - that my mother made when my dad was away in WW 2.  And an even more special one that was made by her mother, wiith dates embroidered on some of the patches...I remember 1916 as one of the dates.

Re: New Year - New Beginnings

Get your picks in to Luv, ladies!

Gabriele - you had the excellent idea of Pre-picking the 3 Finalists before the show even gets underway...who are yours?

Can you believe it's only two days away?   I think I will start a new thread for Season 22 early tomorrow morning.

I'm rambling...I haven't had my coffee yet.   Time to get going.   Have a great Saturday, friends.

P.S.   I love Nyle. What a great guy - great attitude.

Re: New Year - New Beginnings

It's not as sophisticated as Jet's, but at about USD 20, I consider myself lucky.  When looking at it I noticed it was hand signed and that Jet back then explained about the dating and 'signing' of quilts.  The 'inscription' is made of tiny cross stitches and so is the border around it.  The rest is  quilted by hand.
