I haven't read the article yet, but wasn't he studying political science at some point, or wanting to?  Can't imagine staying apolitical, if that's your field of interest.  Maybe he envisions a career in politics.  Do we know about his plans?

Good late morning to everyone.  I have been sick during the past several weeks.  Nothing life threatening, but getting well involved a lot of sleep.  Now I am working on getting into a schedule that makes is possible for me to post at least once in the morning onto our message board.

I am still very technologically challenged.  Once I get better, I will post pictures along with narrative about the Beloved Community Potluck Dinners.  It is hard to believe that this coming Sunday will be our 27th dinner.  I think that I have shared with you all that the senior pastor at New Hope told me that he knew I was shocked when 90 people showed up at the first dinner, but he wasn't.  What he is shocked about is that we are now headed to our 27th dinner.  Keeping us on track and emphasizing the grass roots nature of this venture has upset people who want to co-opt it for their own puposes.  We had to tell the president of our university that we would love for him to come to the dinners be a part of the conversation, but no, he was not going to be able to speak at a dinner and oversee a question and answer time.  We pointed out that the mayor comes regularly and has never asked to use the group to further his vision for our community.  I had dinner with one of the young men from the Black Male Initiative the other night, and he told me that more and more he was seeing the importance of building a small team of people committed to grass roots development.  He said he had not given much thought before to the power a few committed people who are not part of the power structure.  It was then that I remembered two movies:  "The Power of One" and "Ladyhawk"..  About 2/3 of the way through "The Power of One" and the beginning of "Ladyhawk",  there are powerful statements.  The main character in "The Power of One" notes that "A waterfal begins with only one drop of water." as he gives his reason for making the decision to turn down a wonderful academic opportuinity in order to help with literacy in South Africa.  In" Ladyhawk", a relatively unimportant prisoner escapes from a dungeon at the beginning of the movie.  When the wicked Bishop is told that it really is not such a big deal because Mouse is unimportant, the Bishop replies, "Great stories announce themselves with a single breeze, and a single rebel spark can ignite the fires of rebellion."  If you have not seen these movies, they are beautiful, although, I personally do not care for the soundtrack to "Ladyhawk".

I am posting this video of Randiss Hopkins.  He attended New Hope for four years and earned his degree in music.  And he was also a member of the Black Male Initiative (BMI) and attended some of the Beloved Community Dinners.   He and I had breakfast together several times while he was in DeKalb, and we had lunch together just before he left DeKalb.  Randiss also loves sports and is now working in community relations for the Orlando Magic, April and Niecey's stomping grounds.

I apologize because this comes over as a picture and not as a video.  I will try to bring over the video properly so that it plays as a video.  It will be in a separate post.

Good to hear from you, KOS.  Good decision to keep the ethos of your dinners.  Hope you have fully recovered.

There must be more than one, Annie.  Clementine Ford, Cybill Shepherd's daughter is an American actress, born in 1979.  Clementine Ford, the Australian writer is born in 1981 and studied in Adelaide, South Australia, my current home turf.

EDIT:
Ooops, I see view has beaten me to it already.

Hope you had a great day.  And yes, my well-organised days are over, too.  Life getting in the way all to often these days.

Re: Maks Is Back! Season 23

Do any of you - who are old enough - remember where you were when you heard that Elvis Presley had died?

I was not even a big fan, but even so, I do remember driving in the car on a trip in 1977 and hearing the news.

Well, since finishing Martin Short's autobiography  I have been looking around for another audio book to download to my tablet.  And if I'm reading a thriller, for example in this case Grisham's The Whistler - then I don't like to be listening to a similar audio as you can
imagine...the storylines could get entangled in my little brain.
And I happened upon Linda Thompson's memoir - published just this past May.   It is read by Linda.  And she says in the forward that she began to write it 40 years ago.  But couldn't get past a certain
period of her life - due to the Bruce Jenner marriage and divorce - and so simply put it away.  To possible never pick up again and complete.

It was only with Caitlyn Jenner's very public transformation recently that she felt she could accurately tell her own story.

I think it's going to be good... in audio or book form.

She begins with the phone call she received from the little 9 year old Lisa Marie breathlessly telling her that her daddy has died.

I responded to one of his tweets a few days ago, asking if he had thought of possibly running for office.  He "liked" my tweet!
