I think this all goes back to the notion of expectations and what we are seeing from the outside vs. celebrity schedules and what is actually happening away from cameras.  We are seeing, maybe, 1% of these people’s lives (if that much).  We only know what is on their public schedules. 

There is no use in our setting up expectations on their schedules, and then getting disappointed and jumping ship when something else—that was rather obviously already planned and we simply weren’t privy to that information—happens. 

We know that Meryl and Maks have upcoming events together. (Figure Skating event in Brooklyn, Dance Fusion, and maybe Sway, and any and all rehearsing that those events will require).

They obviously have a deep connection between their family and friends.  (supporting each other’s brothers, sending greetings to extended “fam” via social media, parents…)

For now, that’s really all that any of us need to know. 

Both of them are allowed to have friends.  Even friends who are exes.  They are allowed to hang out with those people.  Even frequently.
