Hope everyone is doing well.

CEK, yesterday our brown standard Poodle turned 13.   I know...where does the time go?   The life span of Standards is 12 to 15 years on average.  I have always said that when they are both gone, I am not interested in having pets in the home anymore.   We like to travel, and I'd like a little more freedom to just come and go without always having to consider "the dogs".

And eventually with no dogs, there would be no need for our large fenced yard - - maybe a nice Condo instead of a house and its yardwork would be in our future.

Etc.   

And yet I know when that time comes, I will miss them very much.  This brown one in particular I could write a book about.  She was the first - bought when she was just 7 1/2 weeks old.  She always thought she was one of the grandchildren - until we bought another dog.

She's the "communicator".  With 3 or 4 different  barks, whimpers, chirps, and howls...it's not hard to know what type of thing she's trying to tell you.   Like Lassie - she comes and sits in front of me in an agitated way until I follow her to see what's up.   She has warned me that

the water heater had sprung a leak in the basement
that her "sister" was eating my favorite hair brush
that the new fuel pump in the car was not installed correctly and was leaking.
 
And many other incidents.  Sometimes her hyper sensitivity to things not "just as they should be" to her way of thinking has driven my crazy.  (I have to take her across the street to see that they are just decorations on their porch... every Halloween)

Anyway, I was just thinking of your situation, and I wish the very best for the dog in your family.  They certainly do become a part of our lives.  Our Coco is in very good health for her age, but I know it can't go on forever.

View I know what you mean...All the pets we have here have some "medical" condition where they require medication or insulin twice a day and have to eat when they take it so going out for extended periods of time is not possible for us all.  Then taking a vacation we have to board them.  I have been down this road before and am here again but this time it is not really my pet but my daughter and son-in-laws but I am here with them all day so they are like my "grandchildren" ....  It doesn't get any easier when they age.  My son-in-law said after these are gone "no more"...but they are young and I know that probably won't be the case.

Bella seems happy just can't put any weight on that leg much because of the ACL and Meniscus....hopefully we can do something to help her have some quality for whatever time she has left....
