He is probably right.  You know, it would be nice if something like your community dinners hit the mainstream media, showing all of the "good" out there instead of all of the riots and such.  That being said, I kind of hope that your dinners/groups kind of stay small and connected.  When you get others involved, especially in a "take over" thing, you lose exactly what you were trying to accomplish in the first place.  Does this make sense?

It absolutely makes sense.   But we also know that we need to shape the inevitable growth that is coming.  I have found, to my delight, that being almost 75 has been a plus.  But is also helps enormously that I threw my lot in with an African American church in 2001.  I am not viewed as an activist by other white people; but, to my utter surprise the white activists listen to me when I tell them that they are "barking up the wrong tree" with their top down initiatives.  If we want to build trust, it has to be grassroots or from the bottom up.  And when numbers drop you do not give up.  Now it is obvious hat if we did a major publicity campaign, we could be getting 250-300 people to our dinners.  So a small group of us is talking about how to pull this off while maintaining the wonderful vibe that permeates the dinners.  The conversations at the last two dinners have been particularly good.

I wish we had a KOS in every community. LOL  Seriously, what you and the others are doing is fantastic.  You are right about building up from the grassroots. You know, I think if people would just get together and talk (without being judgmental) but really listen to what others are saying and try to see it "from the other side".....just think what a better place this world would be.

At two different dinners we talked about empathy.  Here is my shock.  In the research I did, I cam across a sad statistic: in this country empathy dropped by 40% since 9/11.  There was another shock.  It is people who are highly empathic, who maintain their beliefs and their principles, but who are not judgmental; it is these people who spark action and real change.  One of the more humorous things that has happened is that there was a vocal minority who began speaking up at the second dinner in Feb.  of 2015.  Their opinions went something like this:  conversations was all well and good but we needed to be taking action, now.  One of those people who had not come in a while showed up at our Feb./2016 dinner.  I teased him and asked him how he felt now.  so many initiatives are coming out of these dinners from several different people.  By the way, tying with relationships to the police the biggest request was that we start a Beloved Community Choir.  One very good decision we made at the very first dinner is that no one, not the mayor, not the police chiefs, not the superintendent of schools, not the district attorney, etc., is given a special welcome nor are they allowed to put their titles on their name tags.

Re: Seasons Come, Seasons Go... So Let's Dance Like We're 22

I'm baaaaack!!!

Our supper was good!  the goulash or whatever it was the pizza guy (who is probably Greek or eastern European so he offers quite a variety of food) was tasty...and the garlic brown rice was the perfect bed for it.  It had taro root in it as well....from which the Hawaiians make poi, which is one of the most GROSS things ever!  This was cubed, had the texture of a mush potato, and the flavor was very mild because it picked up whatever spices they had used.  Went perfectly with frozen corn!!

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. I am so afraid that it is going to effect our other dog here when something happens to Bella...he has been with her since he was 8 weeks old...He is so afraid of everything and when they have to be boarded he always has to stay in the run with her...it is going to be hard on him I am afraid...

it can be.....do you think he would bond with a new dog or puppy??

I don't know April...I don't know if we are even wanting a new puppy or dog right now.  This is really tough on my daughter and her hubby because they have never been faced with it before!

It is tough to get another pet right away.  Our last dog was gone for almost a year before we decided it was time to get another one.  It was after hubby's suicide attempt that I suggested it might be time...and be helpful....and he agreed.  It's been good!

Hey Jet *waving*  so what's going with the rice??????.......LOL

Hey, April....What's going with the rice is something the pizza store owner gave us!!! It's chicken and garbonza beans and onions. We are going to put it on brown rice with garlic butter!! It looks alot like something I make with more of a Latin flair (pinto beans, tomatoes, chicken) that goes on brown rice.

Oh that sounds good

It was!!  Hubby and his hangar rat friend make something called "Apple Pie".  It's a sort of moonshine that they share with everyone they know!!  So they had shared it with the pizza guy, who loved it, and donated 20 bucks to the next batch.  When hubby took it down to him, he insisted on giving hubby what we just ate for supper!!!
