Good late morning to everyone. I have been sick during the past several weeks. Nothing life threatening, but getting well involved a lot of sleep. Now I am working on getting into a schedule that makes is possible for me to post at least once in the morning onto our message board.
I am still very technologically challenged. Once I get better, I will post pictures along with narrative about the Beloved Community Potluck Dinners. It is hard to believe that this coming Sunday will be our 27th dinner. I think that I have shared with you all that the senior pastor at New Hope told me that he knew I was shocked when 90 people showed up at the first dinner, but he wasn't. What he is shocked about is that we are now headed to our 27th dinner. Keeping us on track and emphasizing the grass roots nature of this venture has upset people who want to co-opt it for their own puposes. We had to tell the president of our university that we would love for him to come to the dinners be a part of the conversation, but no, he was not going to be able to speak at a dinner and oversee a question and answer time. We pointed out that the mayor comes regularly and has never asked to use the group to further his vision for our community. I had dinner with one of the young men from the Black Male Initiative the other night, and he told me that more and more he was seeing the importance of building a small team of people committed to grass roots development. He said he had not given much thought before to the power a few committed people who are not part of the power structure. It was then that I remembered two movies: "The Power of One" and "Ladyhawk".. About 2/3 of the way through "The Power of One" and the beginning of "Ladyhawk", there are powerful statements. The main character in "The Power of One" notes that "A waterfal begins with only one drop of water." as he gives his reason for making the decision to turn down a wonderful academic opportuinity in order to help with literacy in South Africa. In" Ladyhawk", a relatively unimportant prisoner escapes from a dungeon at the beginning of the movie. When the wicked Bishop is told that it really is not such a big deal because Mouse is unimportant, the Bishop replies, "Great stories announce themselves with a single breeze, and a single rebel spark can ignite the fires of rebellion." If you have not seen these movies, they are beautiful, although, I personally do not care for the soundtrack to "Ladyhawk".
I am posting this video of Randiss Hopkins. He attended New Hope for four years and earned his degree in music. And he was also a member of the Black Male Initiative (BMI) and attended some of the Beloved Community Dinners. He and I had breakfast together several times while he was in DeKalb, and we had lunch together just before he left DeKalb. Randiss also loves sports and is now working in community relations for the Orlando Magic, April and Niecey's stomping grounds.![]()
I apologize because this comes over as a picture and not as a video. I will try to bring over the video properly so that it plays as a video. It will be in a separate post.
Hi KOS...so good to hear from you. Hope you are doing well. I love reading about your dinners and those that attend them...Thank you so much for sharing your involvement with them and for all it does for those that attend.

DWTS's Peta Murgatroyd Admits Feeling "Disappointed" Over Her Postpartum Body
Professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd has been making headlines since she posted an honest postpartum photo to Instagram eight days after having her son, Shai, back in January. In an interview with Good Morning America in February - Shai’s onscreen debut - Murgatroyd went further to say that she was disappointed that she left the hospital looking five months pregnant despite having her baby. “I left the hospital literally looking five months pregnant,” she said. “At first I was like, ‘Oh wow.’ I was a little disappointed, but I realized I just did the most beautiful thing that a woman can produce and do in life. I need to just suck it up, move on, and not worry about the little things.”
Every mother has a unique experience with her postpartum body and approaches her subsequent feelings over the way she looks differently, but I think most of us can agree with Peta’s sentiment to try not to worry about the little things, just your little one.

Erin Andrews at the Women’s Cancer Research Fund Hosts ‘An Unforgettable Evening’, Los Angeles (16 February, 2017)
Erin Andrews takes the red carpet for a cancer research benefit called “An Unforgettable Evening.” (Photo: FilmMagic/Getty Images)Erin Andrews is a woman all about her work. The Fox Sports reporter and Dancing With the Stars host recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about her secret battle with cervical cancer a few months after she dealt with that nude video lawsuit. In the piece, Andrews revealed that days after her operation she went right back to work.
“Should I have been standing for a full game five days after surgery? Let’s just say the doctor didn’t recommend that,” she said. “But … sports were my escape. I needed to be with my crew.”
Thursday night, Andrews showed up to give back in support of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. The hostess hit the black carpet for the fund’s “An Unforgettable Evening” event in Los Angeles in a sheer, lacy navy off-the-shoulder dress, leaving a pair of black knickers on display. She finished the look with a pair of lacy, strappy black sandals.

Just baked a Bundt carrot cake from scratch (needed to use up a few carrots!). I used apple sauce instead of oil, and put cream cheese filling in the middle. We'll see how it tastes tonite when a friend whose birthday was the 15th is coming for dinner!
