Witney Carson has her own Youtube Channel....

Published on May 4, 2017I'm so excited to finally launch my YouTube channel today! For my first video I did a Q&A where I answered a bunch of questions that you guys have sent through to me! I’m dishing out all the answers about my favorite movies, my advice for when you’re struggling with self-confidence, how I first found my passion for dancing, how Carson and I met, and so much more.

Re: SEASON 24 is knocking at our door...

Good Monday....Show Day....to you all!!!

Well, our interestingly strange rainy day has passed and it is severe clear and crispy cool at the moment.  It was cold enough when I got up before 6 AM that I put the heat on for about an hour!!

Getting ready to host bunco tonite....again!!!  Does it seem like that just happened??!!!  Well, it did!!!  LOL. I will be done for a while now!!!  LOL

Hubby had an 8 AM MRI at the VA this morning, so thought I would catch up and figure out who to send home (whoever I choose will likely not be the right one!!!) and who will be on top.

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. And while reflecting on life, we all remember Todd Beamer's heroism and leadership on 9/11. I have no idea when this interview took place or even its authenticity but I thought it worth thinking about, counting our many blessings in life, and passing it on. This was sent to us by a friend.

Lisa Beamer on Good Morning America - If you remember, she's the wife of Todd Beamer who said 'Let's Roll!' and helped take down the plane over Pennsylvania that was heading for Washington, DC back on 9/11.

She said it's the little things that she misses most about
Todd, such as hearing the garage door open as he came
Home, and her children running to meet him.

Lisa recalled this story: "I had a very special teacher in
high school many years ago whose husband
died suddenly of a heart attack. About a week after his death, she shared some of her insight with a classroom of students. As the late afternoon sunlight came streaming in through the classroom windows and the class
was nearly over, she moved a few things a side on the edge of her desk and sat down there.

With a gentle look of reflection on her face, she paused
and said, 'Class is over, I would like to share with all of you, a thought that is unrelated to class, but which I feel is very important. Each of us is put here on earth to learn, share, love, appreciate and give of ourselves. None of us knows when this fantastic experience will end.
It can be taken away at any moment.

Perhaps this is God's way of telling us that we must make
the most out of every single day. Her eyes, beginning to
water, she went on, 'So I would like you all to make me
a promise. From now on, on your way to school, or on
your way home, find something beautiful to notice.

It doesn't have to be something you see, it could be a
scent, perhaps of freshly baked bread wafting out of
someone's house, or it could be the sound of the breeze
slightly rustling the leaves in the trees, or the way the
morning light catches one autumn leaf as it falls gently
to the ground. Please look for these things, and cherish
them. For, although it may sound trite to some, these
things are the "stuff" of life. The little things we are put
here on earth to enjoy. The things we often take for
granted.

The class was completely quiet. We all picked up our
books and filed out of the room silently. That afternoon,
I noticed more things on my way home from school than
I had that whole semester. Every once in a while, I think
of that teacher and remember what an impression she
made on all of us, and I try to appreciate all of those
things that sometimes we all overlook.

Take notice of something special you see on your lunch
hour today. Go barefoot. Or walk on the beach at sunset.
Stop off on the way home tonight to get a double dip ice
cream cone. For as we get older, it is not the things we
did that we often regret, but the things we didn't do.

If you like this, please pass it on to a friend,
If not just delete it and go on with your life!
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away."

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

GOD Bless you every day of your life.

The nicest place to be is in someone's thoughts,

The safest place to be is in someone's prayers,

and the very best place to be is....

In the hands of God.

It's a small world.  Lisa Beamer and her husband, Todd, are 1991 grads of my Alma Mater, Wheaton College.  There is an entire center on campus dedicated to him, the Beamer Center.  It is the heart of student life and houses both the cafeteria which has incredible food (often included and sometimes #1 in lists about  best food on campus.) that is both healthy and delicious and the old Alumni Gym which has been redone as a center for banquets and concerts.  Robert Shaw always wanted Alumni Gym as the place in which to perform because the acoustics are incredible.  So we all sat on bleachers and listened to Bach's B Minor Mass being performed by the Robert Shaw Chorale and Orchestra.  In the revamping of the gym, chairs replaced bleachers so that the building has become an all purpose building.  The Beamer Center also spills out into open spaces.  I was not able to go to the dedication but have friends who did.

That is awesome, KOS....indeed a small world.  You never know who, what or where one's paths in life may lead.

After 9/11 an organization emerged out here in the Long Beach area (not far from us) that made a quilt block in memory of each individual who lost his/her life that day.  It was a gargantuan effort that took about a year+, it seems, to complete.  The intent was to have it be a traveling exhibit, but the first place it was unveiled was on the Queen Mary (the 1st QM) that is permanently moored in LB harbor.  If I recall, each block was 12" x 12" and there were probably 24 per quilt??  So doing the math, you can imagine how many quilts there were just to hang at any place where they were displayed!  I and several of my friends were heavily involved in the process during the quilt making and the initial exhibit on the Queen Mary.

Sadly, as those good intentions too often go, TPTB (self-designated, I'm sure) ran into some silly politics amongst the organizers and also financial disarray (maybe never got off the ground).  But even just to find a place to store the quilts was going to be a real problem.  I do hope that they were donated to a museum somewhere as a lot of love, talent, and hard work went into them.

Todd Beamer is a name that I think everyone who lived the experience of 9/11 will always remember.  I recall that his famous words "Let's roll" were on his quilt block.  What is it they say: Heroes are ordinary people doing extraordinary things"....he may be the most famous for his words, but there were an untold number of heroes that day (and much longer) giving selflessly to others.

Happy Sunday Morning to you all....

I am just stopping by quickly to say hey...Today is my daughter, my youngest, birthday...she is 28 today...Wow hard to wrap my head around that....So I am off to pick up a few things for supper tonight...I have tried to get her to tell me what she wanted but like everything else she does it is always late...I always say she was 10 day late arriving and she has been late ever since...no lie either...

One of my all time favorite people was always late.  I met her during my first year and her fifth year of teaching.  But she was an outstanding teacher.  Students loved her; the administration loved her. That first year, our principal held up the procession for graduation because at that high school teachers and administrators  wore academic robes and led the procession that brought the seniors into the gym/auditorium.  He was looking at his watch when we all heard the click, click click of her heels and all was well.  When Frodo tells Gandalf that he is late, Gandalf replies: "No, I am exactly on time."  Undoubtedly your daughter is also one of these delightful people.  Sometimes, these are the people valule kairos (quality of time) in a culture that enshrines chronos (measured time) almost to the exclusion of kairos.  Young children spend most of their time in kairos.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DAUGHTER, WHO, LIKE MY DAUGHTER, WAS BORN LATE----THREE WEEKS.

Cute story, KOS!!!  Both my kids were late too!!!!

Just a question for you (tells you how long it's been since I have attended graduation!): don't teachers and administrators wear academic robes anymore to graduation ceremonies???  What a shame if they don't!

But we are too spoiled by the conveniences of our current world, don't you think?! I have always admired farmers and those who physically work hard. I think it is the simplicity of life that I long for. Even in my childhood, life was much simpler.....I actually remember being bored during summers out of school!!! Of course, my mother told me if I was bored, she'd find something for me to do (like chores!!)....so that didn't last long!! LOL

I think what attracts me to this art is that things seem orderly!!! Of course, I'm also a sucker for anything with pumpkins....anything fall, for that matter.

Thank you JET, CEK and View for your conversation about art and life.  Thank because the word " orderly" triggered a memory of the musical "Quilter", the story of one woman and her six daughters, all seven of whom were pioneer/settlers.  When my daughter was in college, she played one of the daughters.  The musical was to have a 10/12 day run.  Can't remember which.  I had planned to go opening night and closing night, but I ended out attending all nights the show was on.  And I am glad that I did because I found the closing dialogue among the seven women powerful  because it covers the hardships and tragedies and not just the happy times on the frontier.  And the reality was that by the time my daughter was in the show and I saw our family had been so affected, and still is, by my husband's battle with bi-polar illness (1977-2017) and the terrible side effects of many of the drugs that he was on.  I wrote down the dialogue and added it to my collection of stories and observations about how people handle difficult times.  Sarah's closing words are powerful but they do not conform to the you can do anything and do it well if you just put your mind to it self help advice.  Part of life is all about what happens that we did not plan on happening, and how we piece it together in any way we like because "piecing is orderly."  You quilters know a lot more about piecing a quilt than I do.

Here is the closing dialogue.

Sarah:   "And He showed me a river of pure water of life, clear as crystal proceeding out of the throne of God and the Lamb."

Daughters:   "And on either side of the river there was a Tree of Life....., and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations...."

Sarah:   "You can't always change things.  Sometimes you don't have no control over the way things go.  Hail ruins the crop or the fire burns you out.  And then you're given just so much to work with in a life, and you have to do the best you can with what you got.  The materials is passed on to you or is all you can afford to buy....that's just what's given to you.  Your fate.  But the way you put them together is your business.  You can put them together in any order you like.   Piecing is orderly."

This musical made its first run on Broadway in 1984.  I saw it at the theater at the University of Wisconsin, Wausau branch in 1993.

I LOVE THIS, KOS.....and the dialogue is so correct (as I see it anyway) and insightful.  Life is, in quilting terms, a patchwork of bits and pieces put together with love and a certain amount of vision.  Sometimes it comes out as you envision it will; sometimes you mix and match and change things up because, either something happened that altered the outcome, you didn't like it as you envisioned it, or you ran out of fabric so you scrapped it up with what you had!!

I learned long ago that we control very little in life....and what our life is and becomes is largely how we respond to circumstances (fate as the dialogue calls it)....how we deal with it all.  When we are young and foolish, we think that life will go a certain way--according to OUR plan.  Somehow it often becomes something much different than we anticipated.  But the "trick", if you will, to happiness is to allow each of  those experiences...the patchwork....to take us where it leads, to make peace with each change that we do or don't like...and many are almost unnoticed as they happen.  Each piece or chapter helps form the outcome...adding something that molds the story of life.  In the end we will end up with our own quilt...our Tree of Life....of many colors, fabrics, textures....molded into the imperfectly perfect story of our own life story....unique and different, as each one of us is unique.

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer.
