I found this...
It took several doctors visits and multiple trips to the emergency room to figure out what was going on. In the meantime, they were forced to withdraw from competition for the rest of the year. Alexa was eventually diagnosed with a rare, potentially fatal gastrointestinal condition. She underwent three surgeries and her weight whittled down to just 80 pounds. When she returned to the ice for the first time, she had to retrain her body.

Surprised that we only have one pair team....humm
I know that is strange.
The number of slots you get depends on how the country placed at worlds the year before. That's why we only had two women at the 1994 Olympics--they didn't do well at the 1993 Worlds.

Whoa....that sounds really serious, so glad she is better now......how scary...
