My mom (93 last month) has had Alzheimer's for, now, at least 10 years (that we know of). She is well cared for in a home for AD patients in their last stages of the disease but it is heart breaking to see the changes in her--and to know that she is living her worst fear. She is in VA so will see her in October. Always difficult, but, yes, "The Long Goodbye".

Annie and Jet, AD is such an awful disease.  And "living her worst fear." captures the essence of the disease.  I have watched a dear friend, one who was full of laughter and joy, become a very different person because of this disease.   And I have always loved Ecc. 3:1.   
 

Here's a sweet story: An elderly gentlemen who had stopped by his doctor's office for some routine blood tests, seemed agitated. The nurse asked if he was frustrated by having to wait, and he replied that he needed to be at the nursing home where his wife (who had Alzheimer's) lived so that they could have breakfast together as usual. The nurse asked if his wife remembered him and said that she might not even notice if he weren't there. The old man said, "No, she doesn't remember me but I remember her." 
 

 
How true that one it!  We had a customer for several years who brought his wife around when he came into our shop a couple times a week.  She always followed him and just smiled.  I never heard her speak except for one day she said, "Hi."  I never knew she had AD until she stopped coming with him.  When he came alone  I asked him where his wife was and he told me she had AD and he had had to put her in a home.  But he went to the home to be with her twice a day, every day, fed her, read to her, and stayed there for a while each time-- until she died--and during that time he still came around to visit with us but not as often.  I was so taken with the pure devotional love and so impressed by that dedication and example.

About a year after she died we got a hand written letter from someone in, I think, Oregon.  It was from their daughter telling us her father had died a few months before and we were in his address book so she wanted us to know that he had enjoyed the relationship and that we had been important to him.  Shocking because we weren't personal friends--just someone we met along the way.  It was very touching.

Awesome how embarrassed Meryl was--and how CUTE Maks was! In the piece I read on body language, it said that the crossed arms are a protective move for the person doing it. I noticed that Maks did that quite a lot in the beginning weeks but later on I don't think we ever saw it.

We should save that one in the video file, shouldn't we?

LOL LOL LOL Oh--Annie--you took the final early too????? (That was gonna be my line, but you beat me to it since you are 2 hrs. ahead of me!!). I took the final at 7:00 before we went to breakfast!!! I passed it too!! Got an A++++++++++++++++++++ in Hip Action 101!!! Giving my credits to Meryl so she can finish her degree early!!!

LOL!!!!  hey you guys already took it?????LOL.....i see you both got A++++++well i took it too and so did I   but i decided to take the class again for extra credit!!LOL
