Re: Get ready for DWTS Season 27

Hi, Everyone!  Just thought I would check in and saw anniversary wishes from CEK and Aprill (a day early)!!  THANK YOU!!!

We went for lunch at our favorite Mom and Pop Italian place this afternoon and had the special, whcih was salmon in wine garlic butter with capers and rigatoni with artichoke hearts (or vegetables).  One of my niece’s freinds waited on us.  She is always so friendly and sweet.  It was low key but that is our style.

This morning my SIL sent a message to the family that her husband, who has been in the hospital or a rehab/care center since January 18, had only about 24 hours.   So far, he must be hanging on—as has been his M.O.  The cancer has filled one lung and there are lesions in the brain, the other lung is struggling due to emphasema, CO2 is high, kidneys failing, etc. so the outlook is very short.  It will be a blessing when he finally succombs; he has just been unable to fight all the things going on but has given it a very valiant effort.  My SIL has spent about 12 hours EVERY DAY with him for the entire 6 months.  She is doing very well, all things considered, and I believe it will be a relief for her.  She has done everything humanly possible in the past 6 months....and it has given her time to adjust to the realities.  I just hope and pray that he passes peacefully.

On the other side of the family, daughter’s MIL was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer (6 in 1 million get it!) about 2 weeks ago.  Today she was to get a port.  In that she has all sons, the exact information is...wellll....you know.....not very comprehensive!!!  LOL. My son-in-law spent last week down here with his mom but daughter wasn’t able to really extract a lot of useful info from him.  It seems that she may have some surgery to remove a portion of the cancerous tissue....and then chemo.

Yesterday was littlest granddaughter’s 6th birthday.  They went to Reno for 2 nites and she was almost gobbled up by an escalator when her swim suit skirt got caught in it!!!  Daughter tried to tear the skirt but was unable to.  Fortunately somone stopped the escalator!

It has been very hot here today.  We didn’t put on the AC but it is still hot!!  More muggy than usual for us—and that is the worst part!!!  LOL

Oh, dear....this is too much Debby Downer!!!  Sorry......  I read a couple of the posts about Maks and Val dancing together at one of the DWM studios.  That will be more of a comedy show than a dance lesson, I wager!!!  LOL

I will sign off for now.  Hoping tomorrow will bring better news.l

XOXOXOXO

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. Meryl
We fell in love, but our way. Maks

Re: Get ready for DWTS Season 27

Good morning, Sisters!

Think I need to give you all a quick update....

1) BIL passed away Friday morning after an exhaustive 6+ months in the hospital along with a couple short stints in rehab.  It was peaceful; my SIL and her daughter who lives with her were both there.  I truly believe it is a blessing for the entire family as there was almost no chance from the beginning that he was going to be able to overcome all his issues.  The extended “good-bye”, while very difficult, was probably the only way my SIL would have been able to face the realities without having any (or at least a minimum) of guilt.  It gave her time to see him come back for a few days during the process while she fought the good fight to try to be sure the medications he was allergic to didn’t kill him first!  I told her numerous times that she had learned enough to become a pharmacist in 6 months!!!  LOL. So he is finally at peace.  I thank God for that.

2)  My daughter’s MIL is doing OK while she waits for whatever the next step is.  I have not heard from anyone there what the prognosis may or may not be.  I think the plan is for some sort of surgery to remove some of the cancerous tissue prior to chemo as they have found that chemo is more effective if they remove some but not all of the affected tissue.  She sounds good and seems to feel “good” (whatever that means!).  Grateful for each day when she can continue leading the life she enjoys.

3). My brother has had shingles!!!  (Does it ever end?!!!  🤪). My SIL (the NP) at first didn’t recognize the symptoms, but once she did she got him to the ER right away where they bumped her to the top of the line (queue to you, Gabriele!!  LOL) for the vaccine since she had direct exposure; they were both on the vaccine list in VA (were in AZ when this happened) but their numbers hadn’t come up yet.  He is doing ok now but was in a huge amount of pain.  SIL figures he got himself so worked up about his upcoming back surgery that the stress triggered the reaction.

4)  You all have probably, by now, seen the news of the shooting at the Garlic Festival in Gilroy, CA.  Just to let you know, that is a rural area about 350 miles north of here near San Jose.  The perpetrator (one of possibly 2) was killed along with 3 others; 12 wounded or injured in the fray.  Gilroy is a small town where they process all the garlic that is grown around that area.  Most of the garlic grown in the US comes from Gilroy—and it smells HEAVILY of garlic if you drive through there during the harvest season!!!  The Garlic Festival is a biiiig annual event which draws people from all over the state.  Apparently the festival area is fenced and heavily secured (sad that this is what we have to do) so the perps entered through an area along a creek which, apparently, as not fenced!  We pray for the families and victims.

5). I went to a quilting retreat with 2 of my posse over the weekend—up the coast about 160 miles in Buellton, a very small town in a pretty rural area north of Santa Barbara.  It was a really great time!  The venue was small....20 quilters....so there was a lot of socialization, the weather was perfect (cool in the mornings, comfortable the rest of the day), we all got a lot of sewing done 👍🏻😁 and saw some gorgeous and exotic projects in progress (none were ours!!!  LOL), everyone was friendly (quilters can be very territorial!!), and there was an interesting quilt shop that actually sponsors the monthly retreat, which we plan to return to.  Lighting and AC were both great so there was really nothing to complain about (darn!!  LOL)—and we were quite pampered (never had to clean up except for putting our dishes in the sinkl after supper!!).   You could stay as long as you wanted to (all nite if that is your style!).  There are a few fun things to do up there...visit Solvang, a Danish village 3 miles away, and the Santa Ynez Mission...also a couple of stagecoach way stations that operate as restaurants in nearby more or less remote villages.  We drove thru Solvang (loads of tourists and no parking!) but that was as far away from the retreat center as we got!!  LOL. Hubby and I have not been up there in a very long time so I think we will take a trip up that way for a few days after the tourist season is over!!

Soooo...that is my update.  Need to get breakfast ready before hubby gets back from the VA shortly.

Hope all is well with all of you....and thanks to everyone for your concern and for holding our hands. I am grateful for each of you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

(((HUGS)))

I second this.

Friendship is a priceless gift that can't be bought or sold, its value is far greater than a mountain made of gold.
May this FriendSHIP always have wind in its sails and a sunrise on the horizon.

Awwww....heartfelt thanks to Booky and you, Luv.  You are both so sweet!

While sweating my guts out canning tomatoes on a hot July day this morning 😋🤣, I enjoyed the photos and article Booky posted about Meryl’s wedding.  Read the entire article and was fascinated to see that Meryl took her DWTS hair stylist along to France so she could style her hair over the weekend of the wedding!  Darn....why couldn’t one of us have been that stylist?!!!  LOL. Well...at least there were lots of nice big tree trunks we could have hidden behind...that didn’t come from Target!!!  LOL. We missed our chance!!  LOL
