I don't want to always be the negative person, but does it bother anyone else that Maks nor any of his "fam" have supported Meryl on her latest nomination? She supports all of them. She even tweeted today to support Serge. Asking people to vote for her does not betray anything. I don't believe that there is a sm black out, I think that Maks and company just don't bother with anything Meryl concerned. Ok, I know he did "like" the collage she posted yesterday, but what would it hurt them to support her nomination? I go crazy with Maks, One day I'm mad at him, the next day I feel sorry for him, the next day I think he's the greatest guy in the world. I know I'm crazy.
Ollie, it is okay. I kind of feel the same way too. I just don't understand why SOMEONE doesn't send out one little tweet in support for her. Not even her BFF Jenna. It is strange. Why can Meryl send out tweets in support and they not? Doesn't make sense to me....and makes me a little sad.
It also makes it look like she is putting in all of the effort to keep friendships and commincations open and alive while they sit back and do nothing...... Okay...........my rant is over. LOL

My personal belief is that the Maks and the fam do not tweet in support of her because she has asked them not to. That is the only reason I can conceive of that none of them has done so. The reason for that is between them. It could be to not increase wild SM speculation. It could be she wants to do it on her own. It could be that she feels it might give her an unfair advantage. There are many possible reasons. The one thing I am certain of is that Maks is not ignoring her. Whether or not there is anything romantic going on (and I firmly believe there is), she is his friend, at the very least like Erin or Mel B or Melissa Gilbert. He would not ignore her purposefully or haphazardly. There is a reason. We just don't know what it is.

Can't forget to vote for Meryl
Michelle Kwan is my favorite figure skater of all time. I've met her 3 times when her husband was speaking at events I organized/attended. She remembered me, even though she had no reason to do so. And I was a total fangirl, maybe worse that I'd be with Maks! Well, then again, maybe not! But she is always so charming and gracious!
Oh how exciting to have met her not once but three times.....Wow !! I loved seeing her in the Olympics. I always felt bad that she never got her Gold. She was deserving. Didn't know she was married. She seems so sweet, much like Meryl. Glad that Meryl has had some good role models to look up to in the field of skating. I imagine, this is also why she herself has to be very careful about what is "put out there"......in the press and in other areas.
Her husband is Clay Pell III (the grandson of the late Senator Clayborn Pell, as in Pell Grants). He is currently running for governor of his home state of Rhode Island, so she may become First Lady of Rhode Island. She has been working as goodwill ambassador for the State Dept., but I don't know if she is still doing that.
I, too, am so sad that she didn't get her gold. For a decade she was the top female figure skater in the world, but the Olympics were just jinxed for her, starting out when as a 13 year old, she was the alternate after Tanya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. But as Meryl says, too, it's about the journey and about what you learn about yourself along the way. She certainly gave some magical performances along the way.

Hi, Ollie.... I am gonna take a SWAG on this one. I wonder if it's possible that Maks and the "fam" keep a low profile on these things so as not to stir up negativity that might blow back against Meryl by virtue of showing support--just because there are Maks haters out there?? I know it sounds a little crazy, but there has been some weird SM stuff out there toward Maks that seems both unnecessary, uncalled for, and generally ugly. It could be a way of not linking the two of them out of respect for Meryl's reputation and so she can stand alone. People who want to vote for her will do so; those who might hate Maks may just let it slide and leave it alone if his name is not associated. Why offer the Maks haters a reason to even "show up", if you will? Perhaps this is overthinking it, but it seems that staying quieter on SM has had some effect on toning down the hate somewhat--and that is a good thing.
Since MnM are most likely in contact, I'm sure they have had conversation about how they will proceed in this arena, don't you think? Just a thought.....

I think Michelle Kwan is my favorite figure skater of all time as well--watched her from the time she first competed on the international circuit. What guts! I also didn't know she was married.

HAHA, tango. I just posted something very similar to this--although you were much more eloquent! Thanks!! I agree with you entirely.

In fact Michelle did give magical performances and she is another classy lady....also very accomplished in other areas, as Meryl will become over the next decade of her life as well. I had read a year or more ago that Michelle was working for the State Department. Has a Master's degree in International Relations or something along those lines. Don't know that she was married at the time of the article I read.

I just googled Michelle Kwan. They were married January 19, 2013--coming up 2 years ago. Her husband is in the Coast Guard--a year younger than she. Their meeting and immediate "connection" sound very similar to MnM! Imagine that!!! LOL Nice looking couple. Hope they plan to have some kiddos to run around the place and complete the circle.

Just a quick comment about the "journey". Years ago our daughter's HS softball coach (the team was about .500 in a good year) made a fabulous end of the year banquet speech to the effect that it is not the wins and losses you remember but rather the overall experience (journey) that matters. So very true in that very few people reach gold medal status on the international level; of course, they will remember those moments as well as the moments in which they were an "also ran".
But most of us fall out on a much lower "peak" of our own--where we remember little about the games we won or lost--so we take away (or should) from our experience the fun we had ("character builders", we called the bad teams!), the memories we made, relationships we built, the values lived and learned, people who came and went in our lives and what we learned from them--how we got to whatever level we achieved. It was great to hear Meryl talk about the importance of the journey. I know she has had as many great times as we did along the way--just on a much higher level! The common denominator is the same, however.
