Plus at their point in life (late 20's) and with their personal lives, there is no real reason to commit to on campus presence now that it is possible to take classes online. Having to go to class is sooooo boring and full of time OUT of class that it is a waste of time for them, as I see it---or at least not a particularly useful way to do it, especially when many upper division classes are at nite because many can apply to a post graduate program that working people need to take. I doubt they really need the on campus experience at this stage in their lives. Kinda past that!!

At her level of study, assuming this is the end of it, it might make sense that she would perhaps have to be there for the beginning and end of the semester to meet with the professor and then could do the rest of the work on-line.   It may be more of an independent study kind of thing rather than a completely on-line course.   Things that are completely on-line are often lower-level courses, while seminar-type advanced classes may require some class meetings.

"Carpe fucking diem!"  - Maks said it.
Sorry, I had to use this.  I haven't laughed so much in a long time.

There IS a DWM show going on Sept. 13 and 20 in the same theater where Sway was performed (I keep saying this but I never see it added): No idea whether Maks will be there but I would think he would at least be around to show support for his students, who will be performing.[/quote888]

hmmmm...well according to this list she is free on sept 10th...isn't that when Maks, Val and Tony are sopposed to be appearing at the grand opening of DWM Sherman Oaks????.......Hmmmmmm[/quote888]

Yep, it is!!!  And during the time when the shows take place at the place where SWAY was.

I absolutely love him, and he’s an incredible person. We have this friendship that I have no doubt in my mind is a life-long friendship.  Getting a chance to know him away from training for Dancing With the Stars, I think we've gotten a chance to know each other in a different way, which of course just makes you closer. Thanks again for bringing these over!   I was finally able to watch them, albeit with lots of stops and starts, this morning.   What I wanted to see was what Maks was saying when he put his hand on her hands folded in her lap.   And I was rewarded!   That's the point where he said he was uncomfortable talking about himself (he didn't really seem like it), that this was her win.   I think she said "It's all you" like she did when they won.   But really that whole interview was all about Maks, and she seemed to love it.  You didn't even get a glimmer of any dissatisfaction in her eyes about them focusing on him instead of her.   IMHO, that's love!

she seemed to want the focus to be about his journey through out the whole season  ....and he kept saying it was all about her and her journey

Val said it best when he talked about "her selfless effort" to get him to know what it felt like to win. I think Val keeps Maks focused. Both of them are pretty introspective.

Thanks, CEK. I miss seeing them together every Monday -- I want that time back!!!

Good Saturday morning all! Hope you all are going to have a great Labor Day weekend1

Sorry I missed you last nite. We ended up going out to dinner with some friends we hadn't seen in a while--fairly impromptu thing. Ended up trying to watch a movie at their house afterwards but they are as technologically challenged as the rest of us--HAHA!! It was hilarious actually--couldn't get the DVD to load so we just drank wine instead!! LOL In all fairness, tho, they had changed out some boards in the TV recently which presumably caused the problem. Just had fun teasing them about it--and it's so me to not be able to operated the DVD player!! Grandkids are old enough to do it for me now!! LOL

Anyway--on the MnM comments, CEK, I think you expressed what we all think and feel very well!!! Makes perfect sense to me!! It is in fact frustrating for all of us not to know what is going on with them (are we just nosy losers or what?!! HAHA). Truly we have no right to know anything they don't want us to know but somehow we think we should be privy to their lives!!!! LOL Social media has in large part created this expectation, so logically people think that they should put stuff out there to assuage our curiosity. So it is, I suppose, a dichotomy for them as well as for us.

I believe they are together more often than they let us know, that they are in close contact daily, and that they are trying to figure out where they are going and how they are going to get there. So tactically I think they are flying below the radar as much as is humanly possible to reduce expectation and curiosity--while strategically working on where they are and where they are going long-term. Maks, being older and having had more female relationships (I assume), has a more defined understanding of what he wants in a soulmate--and knows he has found it. Meryl, otoh, had apparently a somewhat tenuous relationship for the 3 years prior to meeting Maks, so she has more to sort out. I doubt she had any expectation that in 3 mos. she would be in love with a guy who wanted to get married NOW! She is also more cautious by nature, so I think they both want to have it worked through as much as possible before their break-out announcement or photo together somewhere. I don't think either of them wants to come out and not be certain where they are going together. I think it was a bit into the relationship before Maks and Kate Upton were even seen together--and I don't know that folks were even speculating on who he was dating then.

In short, I think it will all come together and come out eventually--but we, being not so patient in this arena, tend to question "whatever it is they have" that they want to be "off cameras."

Meanwhile, everyone will certainly need to attend your Snooping and Reporting Maksology class since we are not getting any real clues!!! Might have to create our own!!!! At least we have done a lot of advanced planning (of the wedding and kids' names, etc.) for them--SHOULD they decide to take advantage of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Message Board and Counseling Service!!! LOL

LOL...loved everything you said and i think your right about that....just read the article cek posted the link too about raising pro athletes and the part from Meryl's mom was very interesting...she said it's been hard on Meryl going from super structured to more relaxed and she also said at one point that Clayton had more real life experience than Meryl because skaters live in a more (don't remember her word) but protceted enviornment...that makes alot of sense and would explain why she needs time to adjust...and I think Maks understands that and is trying to protect her from the press by making himself their target..to give her that room she needs to adjust

Where is this article that CEK posted? When I read the above paragraph, starting with "Meanwhile, everyone will certainly need to attend your Snooping and Reporting Maxology class. .  . I came unglued LAUGHING and am still at it!!!!!!!!! There is so much truth here, and yet it struck me as funny!! Maybe we need to add "Maksology Psychology 101"

LOL!!  yeah that one may need a pro to teach...is Meryl available to teach???LOL  and the link to the article is only a couple pages back she posted it this morning!!

Exactly.  There is a lot of flexibility now.  Our son did a big independent study project that spanned both semesters of his senior year (aerospace engineering degree)--had a blast doing it but it was a lot of work.  I think it was worth 3 or 4 credits per semester--don't recall (he finished in 2000).  He had to meet with the advisor as he went, of course.  Great experience for him, tho, since he is a totally hands-on guy when he's allowed to be!  Not often in his field but you adjust.

Entirely possible, April!!! If that is the case, can we just skip season 19??!!! HAHA And personally I think they may have broken that clause of the contract long ago!! LOL

oh i think if it exists it's kind of like one of those "don't ask don't tell" things....kind of like this is the rule but as long as you don't openly acknowlege it we don't care what you do...LOL....if thats the case though we may see more of a public acknowlegement once the new winners are crowned!!

We are gonna HOPE so, aren't we?!!! If we could just skip this season, maybe we could get them to push the timetable ahead!!! LOL

LOL...but if we skip season 19 they'll still be champs and connected to DWTS

It is more likely be something with the skating or Olympic people, don't you think? Not that you cannot date, but perhaps what you do in public??? Seems too restrictive even so.

did you read the article Cek posted the link to a few pages back about raising elite athletes...Meryl's mom was interviewed...if you go to pag 2 of the interview there's a section done on an interview with Meryl's mom...it's short but very interesting and some of the things she said about Meryl make some of this make a bit more sense

Guess I missed that one. Do you know what page it was on?? I personally think Meryl was quite naive prior to meeting up with Maks....just had that freshness about her. I think she found---and enjoyed---her "dirty place"!!!! LOL

LOL!!!  well by the huge grin on his face when Erin said that i would say Maks likes being her teacher!!LOL...i'll go repost the article for you
