Sept 26 Special Olympics Opening (Ann Arbor)
Oct 4 Carnival on Ice (Japan) (Have not confirmed)
Nov 2 Golden Moments Charity Skating Event(San Jose)
Nov 27 Detroit Thanksgiving Parade
Nov 29 Galleria Dallas Macy’s Tree Lighting
Dec 13 Progressive Skating and…[/quote888]
There IS a DWM show going on Sept. 13 and 20 in the same theater where Sway was performed (I keep saying this but I never see it added): No idea whether Maks will be there but I would think he would at least be around to show support for his students, who will be performing.[/quote888]
Should be plenty of time for MnM togetherness between and among those appearances!! LOL Not nearly as rigorous as our Maksology class schedule!!! LOL
I know really and then we have "real life" to contend with as well...LOL[/quote888]
Really???!!!! HAHA

I composed a long answer and then managed to delete it. Aargh!
The music on DWTS has always been one of my pet peeves. Technically, I suppose you can dance any dance but a waltz to any four count song. I always wonder what kind of music/dance expertise the person who picks the music has. Of course, they are also dealing with the issue of rights and cost on the show. I know the pros submit a list at the beginning of the season of songs they would like, but that doesn't mean you get them.
I've always thought one of the ways TPTB manipulate the show is to give bad music to people this want to cause trouble for. M&M had pretty fantastic music all season, at least danceable. I think the samba was the worst music.
Here are the dances and the songs from best to worst, IMO:
swing/jive - they usually have decent music for these
rumba - they pretty systematically have real rumba music, even if it's not Latin music, because it's a common beat in popular songs
foxtrot - same for fox trot - it's usually pretty good, primarily because you can do foxtrot to pretty much anything
slow waltz - this is okay because you pretty much can't do a waltz to anything other than slow waltz music
salsa - they're choice of salsa music is usually Latin and usually pretty good
cha cha - usually they have pretty good songs, even if they're not Latin. A lot of them are what my studio calls rock cha chas (ie. M&M Week 1)
samba - it's really hard to do a good samba to bad music; the music adds so much to it. M&M did a superb job with really crappy music. That was not a samba song.
Viennese waltz - I don't think I've ever heard a real V. waltz on the show. Usually they use country songs which are often written in 12/8 time (1-2-3, 2-2-3, 3-2-3, 4-2-3). These can be counted as 4 counts by accenting 1/2/3/4. Or as 4 sets of 3 for a waltz time. It's not really a waltz and most country songs do not give the right feel for a V. waltz. M&M had a pretty good song message wise, so they could work with it.
paso doble/tango - this is probably the worst, IMO. Rarely do couples get a real tango or paso song. M&M's tango music was not a tango, but it was a driving rock song, so they could use it.
This is just my estimation of the music. But M&M really lucked out, except for the samba.
Thanks for explaining this Tango!! It helps alot!!
Thanks tango...You should teach a class on "Dance Knowledge 101" next session...
Annie, have you added tango's class to the schedule for next term?? We might actually learn something in that one!!! LOL

You go, Karina!! Truth is truth.....I really don't think that JH as a judge was a wise choice.....even if they hadn't even considered Maks. Too much nepotism.

D/W will be making another trip to Japan October 4 for Carnival on Ice.
In other news:
[quote888]Meryl and Charlie will be making a visit to Beaumont. IIRC, some article had mentioned they were both born at the Royal Oak location.

ok it was Luv that posted the link to the interview with Meryl's Mom...it's the link on the bottom how to balance being a sports parent....here it is [/quote888]
Thanks, Luv and April. I completely missed the link when I saw the tweet.
Interesting comments by the various moms....I read them all. Actually what they said is pretty much how every parent should approach their kids' activities, I believe. When it is no longer fun, finish the season (I'm a firm believer that you finish what you start), and then do something else. I also believe that the kids who are most dedicated to something they are passionate about more often delay gratification in other areas--such as drugs, alcohol, dating, sex, etc. That is part of being in the "bubble"; I think Cheryl Davis called it being a "mole". Could be academics, sports, dance, community service, scouting, etc.
In regards to Meryl, coming from the skating bubble, just off the biggest win she ever imagined, when she encountered Maks and his "proposal", the farthest thing from her mind was MARRIAGE (even if it was a joke--although he may have been semi-serious just because he is Maks). So considering that they met only 6 mos. ago, it is probably unrealistic to think that Meryl has all the clarity she may want or need,, even now, on her relationship with Maks. I'm sure it was the last thing she expected to have to face--the two of them falling in love with each other. But she did break it off with FedEx, I've heard, fairly early in March--so that must have been a prelude to allowing herself to get involved with Maks so she must have wanted to be free to be with Maks.
So Meryl may well not be quite ready to make a lifetime commitment just yet. While Maks has known for a long time what he wants in a wife--and seems to have found it--she may not quite be there at this moment. And who knows what her family may think of the whole thing!!! I'm sure they are as surprized as anyone else was with how this thing seems to have turned out!!! The other thing is that Meryl has always been very goal oriented. Maks doesn't appear to be as much that way. I kinda think he is the more pragmatic--probably runs with whatever he can come up with and takes more risks. Neither process is wrong--rather what works for each person's personality and character.
Didn't mean to drone on but we seem to all be frustrated with the apparent lack of info about these two!!! No doubt that is how they want it to be......
