It IS very serious. I know from personal experience with my husband and a few other people. When you are older, your brain cannot recover, although in very few cases the patient may live but will never be the same as before. Everyone is different, but similar too. I am very concerned about Joan, and I know that Maks is upset since he found her to be so funny and kind of got to know her. It's always more tragic when you know someone personally when something like this happens. They are not telling us everything, I can assure you. I am praying for her daughter and grandson at the moment, because I know they are distraught, and their lives will never be the same. I also feel for the people on Fashion Police with her because I know how troubled they must be at this time.
yeah...it's a tough time for all of them.....

Okay, I am a little confused. I looked up the lastest books (quite awhile ago though) and the reviews for it was terrible. Maybe, I am thinking it was the last book written that was so bad. I don't want to write about spoilers, but the end book was really bad....right? Maybe, I will have to go look them up again to refresh my memory. I do remember I was quite unhappy what they did to them and kind of distroyed my "love" for the books.OK now i have to know....what did they do to them?????!!!!
SPOILER FOR SVH BOOK....
Sweet Valley ConfidentialSweet Valley Confidential was published on March 29, 2011 and it was the very first "Sweet Valley" book to be entirely written by the hand of creator Francine Pascal herself. The story is set 10 years following the conclusion of the original. Prior to the novel's release, Pascal stated, "I can tell you that what you thought was going to happen to those people doesn't happen. Different things happen. Ten years, from 16 to adulthood, has made very different people. And I'm having kind of good time writing it, doing what I want to do with these people."[5] A review from Entertainment Weekly stated, "Make no mistake: This is a very bad book, bloated and silly and, worst of all, often quite boring." [6] Most reviews by professional critics have been especially negative. Fans of the series have given mixed reviews, citing many inconsistencies and canonical errors. For example, near the beginning of the book, Elizabeth's ex-boyfriend Jeffrey French is mentioned as being happily married, while in the last "epilogue" chapter, he is "still unmarried and unattached." There are many other mistakes in the epilogue as well, such as what happened to Suzanne Devlin: "Suzanne was forced to leave Sweet Valley but returned 6 months later a changed person; unfortunately, she was ill with multiple sclerosis. She apologized to everyone, then crashed her specially equipped car after taking medication with champagne." Suzanne Devlin was mistakenly diagnosed with MS in the SVH magna edition "Perfect Christmas," but then finds out that she was misdiagnosed, and she and Todd fall in love. In describing what became of Roger Collins, Pascal states that after having been accused of molestation by Suzanne Devlin (book 11, "Too Good to be True"), he "felt too uncomfortable being a teacher and left to become a nonfiction writer." SVHC also says his son's name is "Sam," not "Teddy," as in all the SVH books. Another inconsistency is the way Jessica talks in the book, peppering her sentences with "So," and "like," which is a departure from the way she spoke in the SVH and SVU series.
PlotThe story begins with Elizabeth in New York, where she is working on a magazine called "Show Survey," described as "a sort of Zagat for Off Broadway." Through flashbacks, we learn that Jessica and Todd had been having an affair off and on for the last 5 years, and that 8 months ago Elizabeth discovered their duplicity, and has not spoken to either of them since. A few characters from the original series pop up, most notably Winston Egbert, who invested in a dot-com venture with Bruce Patman (also a major character in this book, Bruce's personality changed dramatically when both of his parents passed away suddenly, making him a more caring, sensitive person). Time, unrequited love and other negative life-experiences have morphed Winston turned him into a bitter hateful Scrooge-like miser who womanizes and shows contempt for himself and all humanity. He no longer has any friends. He dies mid-way through the book from an "accidental" drunken fall from his 20-story balcony. Jessica and Todd still live together in Sweet Valley. Jessica has a very successful career for a cosmetics marketing company called "MYFACEISGREEN" and Todd is a successful sports columnist. They are very much in love, but haunted by what they have done to Elizabeth and by the vicious gossip that surrounds them. The twins are expected to attend their grandmother's eightieth birthday party. Elizabeth is torn, not wanting to see her sister and Todd again, but wanting revenge for what Jessica has done to her. She goes to the party, bringing Liam, a handsome bartender she has met in New York. Liam is very attracted to Jessica and flirts with her during the party, causing a rift between Jessica and Todd, which escalates into a free-for-all between all the members of the family (including older brother Steven, who has recently discovered he's gay). Alice Wakefield, the twins' mother, desperately tries to keep the peace, repeatedly asking the staff to serve the cake, finally losing her cool and screaming to her husband, "Ned! Bring out the fucking cake!"Later that night, lying in bed, Jessica realizes that in order to get her sister back, she has to give up Todd. She packs a bag and heads to New York to see her sister. Meanwhile, Elizabeth has been doing some serious thinking on the plane, and comes to the realization that she and Todd weren't going to make it work a long time ago, but was too much of a "commitment freak" to admit it to herself. Elizabeth finds Jessica on her doorstep, and at first is very unforgiving, but finally relents and the sisters hold each other, sobbing, and make up. The epilogue takes place at Jessica and Todd's wedding, which many of the characters attend. Bruce Patman professes his love for Elizabeth, and the two of them presumably live happily ever after.
Sweet Valley: The Sweet LifeThe new series features six confirmed books and takes place a few years after the 2011's Sweet Valley Confidential. Elizabeth and Jessica are now thirty. Both Jess and Todd have an affair and nearly divorce after their trial separation. They then get back together after they declare their love for one another. At the end of book six, Bruce confesses to being in love with another woman.

I feel so badly for Melissa, she has no siblings, her father committed suicide, and it's been just Joan and her son. I think they live together, too. So sad.
Awe that is really sad I hope she will pull through.

Good evening everyone. I have missed you. Lots of good discussion at the book club I have started and sining went well last Sunday morning. My computer has been on fritz and I have just now been abloe to log on to post. I wish you the happiest of birthdays, CEK. And Gariele, I hope that you little boy is getting well.
I have read all the posts so very quickly that I apologize if I did not pick up on other things of importance that may be happening.
The mop on to top of Maks's head is called a Brazilian haircut. I would not know anything about this except that my 34 year old son's barber gave him the same hair cut several weeks ago. He has had his head shots updated. In one set of them you can see the Brazilian cut in all its glory. In the other set with the exact same haircut, he looks suave and debanair. And so the cut can be styled everal different ways. It is the in thing. And I have the feeling that barbers want to try the Brazilian hair cut on men who are seen as having a kind of classic look. And agents may be wanting to see what their clients look like in this cut. I see Maks doing what I see my son doing: only styling the cut once in a while as a Brazilian style: the mop in Maks's case and the brush (It sticks straight up) in my son's case.

So she's vintage!! LOL I love the oldies but goodies--always root for them. Best one was John O-Hurley the first season. He was a fox and so classy. I was devastated when he lost to Kelly Monaco who apparently had the fan base even though I didn't think she danced better than he did. My first big disappointment on dwts....but life went on!!! HAHAI loved him too and his partner was great. I thought she was just beautiful and so graceful. Can't remember her name though......but she was my favorite female pro on that season.
I loved him, too. The pro's name was Charlotte Jorgensen. That was the only season she was on, I think. People were so upset when Kelly won that they had to have a rematch. The rematch was the first time I voted.
I didn't vote again until the season Gilles Marini was on. I started voting halfway through the season and power voted in the finals.
The next time I voted was in the All-Star season for Gilles again, and then for Val after Gilles was eliminated because I did not want Melissa to win. I thought the whole thing was so manipulated, and I stopped watching after that.
I don't think I'll ever vote again. Heck, I'm not even sure I'll watch again after this season.

There was a whole series about them: It was twin girls, Jessica and Elizabeth: There were a TON of different series with them:
It first started when they were in High School in the early 80s, but then the author developed a series when they were kids, in junior high, and college. It had a pretty successful run in the 80s and 90s. Just a few years ago she came out with 2 more books: One when they were 27 and then another set of ebooks when they were 30.....I loved the 27year old book but the ebooks I hated the ending!!!!
It was basically just like a soap opera kind of story for teens. There were probably 300+ books. I loved them!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yeah...i never knew she did the ones when they were 27 and 30!! now i'm gonna have to look them up!!
Read the one when they were 27....the red cover I posted. Don't waste your time with the eseries......unless she comes out with more books....the ending was awful.
LOL...thanks for the warning I'll take you and Luv's advice and stay happily in the hs years

Joan must be in very bad shape.
On life support now......Weird what happened there.... Nice that Maks asked for thoughts and prayers. I think they are just in the process of deciding when to pull the plug. Daughter said Joan wouldn't want to live without a full deck.I agree, it is weird what happened. She seemed fine, by all accounts, the night before. I hope they didn't over sedate her during the procedure she was having. This is so upsetting.
I know with people over about 70 they would rather not put them under unless the surgery is absolutely necessary because often that affects them more than what they had the surgery for. Very sad. I've known several people who were not the same after having surgery late in life. Prayers and love to Joan Rivers' family. Tough time....
