Maks is in the entertainment world. Even in his business pursuits, he needs to be making connections as much as possible. In every small city in this nation we have a chamber of commerce and one of its functions is to get people together to network. It is very possible that ICM, Maks's new representation, suggested that he go to this Italy event for the exposure. Mark Cuban, the owner of the plane, and Muhammed Ali are also ICM clients.
I know that I am going to sound testy here, but how do we think that Maks is going to move forward and grow his businesses when he is losing his major publicity platform, DWTS. Maks has repeatedly stated that having such a big stage on DWTS for 9 years has been a huge boost to his career. Part of his job, part of the job of any savy business person is to be out and about and making connections.
Here is where I am having a very hard time about all the nasty comments being made about Maks as a person. First, we are a very long way from having the majority much less all the pertinent information necessary to arrive at a legitimate conclusion; but we are treating speculation as if it were true. Second, do we honestly believe that Maks did not talk with Meryl about all of this? Do we honestly believe that this young man would intentionally disrespect anyone the way some now believe now think he is disrespecting Meryl? And do we honestly believe that he would make the decision not to be a pro dancer any longer on DWTS before the finale and stick to this decision all through negotiations with DWTS only to turn around and trash Meryl by taking up with a bikini model? Devin actually co-owns with another young woman, the bikini swim suit company for which she models. The financial ramifications of deciding not to be a pro again are enormous. Yes, Maks co-owns dance studios; but these dance studios also support a lot of people. To keep them viable and to grow his businesses, Maks has to stay current and ito stay in the public eye if he is to grow his business concerns.

Hope this wasn't aimed at me.....I said nothing disrespectful....just taking a break.

The way I see Maks is that he is pretty much the "face" on the dance studies--the front/PR man. It's part of his job--and no doubt figured into whatever compensation he receives--to go out there and promote, promote, promote. This includes developing and expanding his network of contacts. You are so correct that now he has given up his major avenue (DWTS) of staying relevant and getting his name out there. As the DWM studios expand, it will be increasingly important to grow the client/student base. I have no doubt that is a tough business. Not like you NEED to take dance lessons! However, you can never know who you will meet where and charity events are loaded with VERY well heeled donors who can open doors for you and your business--but "working a room" to create the opportunities is pretty much a given and a requirement for success.
Assuming that all is well between MnM, and I also believe it is, they must talk about and share each other's experiences and commitments to their professional lives. They have to--it is part of the process.
