Hmmmm.....so was the good intent trying to rescue Maks from himself??? And it didn't work?

My initial thought too.  Let's see if it is still a work in progress.  I wouldn't pick Meryl as someone who easily abandons a 'project'.   At least, I don't expect her to give up on the friendship easily.
