I agree, "knowing" someone over in harms way makes everything seem "closer", although, I do believe we will feel the effects over here in many ways. I do not think Maks will be able to get out for awhile as they have closed air space and are attacking the city where I believe Maks is. Is anyone following Peta? I have seen one tweet or something (on main news) asking for prayers and saying how scared she is.

My heart aches for Ukraine, its people, and most of all for the Chmerkovskiy family. There is such reality with the 24 hour news coverage of today….unlike during Vietnam when it was sporadic and most of the coverage was of protests and anti war demonstrations here. Even my experience in Vietnam seems so calm and normal compared with what we are watching right now. Most of the takeover had already been done by the time the majority of US forces arrived there.
We do not know the outcome of today’s war; we can only presume it. But we can pray for a David v. Goliath outcome. The Ukrainians are a stalwart example of a people who are determined and willing to fight for their freedom and independence. I hope Americans review their courage and that we resolve not to allow ourselves and our country to fall into a similar trap—from within or from without. Freedom is precious—-and it is earned. We cannot take it for granted.
Let us remember the wise words of Ronald Reagan:
”Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
The world is at a crossroads. It seems that the Ukrainians have passed on Reagan’s wisdom to their current generation. May every free country do the same so we can band together with common purpose to overcome evil.

Amen Jet….I can’t imagine the worry they must all be feeling for Maks….He and Meryl are what brought us together….but I never imagined we would be here watching and waiting for one of them in this situation….

Hi guys ((hugs)) There is a new update from Maks....this one is kind of scary....he was arrested apparently but is free now and is now planning to try to make it out of the country. He said we may not hear from him for a few days, he is basically only going to be communicating with Peta, his parents and Val, which is totally understandable. Its a dangerous situation for him, I'm sure. also..... I don't know if you all got it but I sent you all an email about maybe meeting here tonight during our usual DWTS time slot to support him and Val and Ukraine by just celebrating the Ukraine. Hopefully I will see you all tonight around 8 to chat.
