We live about half a block from the fire dept so we’re on an electric grid with them so our power usually gets turned back on in one of the first groups….LOL

Do they still have to prepare? Like boarding up windows, getting stuff? Do they have a generator just in case?
Yes most people will but ost only board up for much stronger storms than what Jax will get…..people in Tampa are boarding up….we have family over there
I heard there was a mandatory evacuation for Tampa Bay or at least parts of it.
Yep….and there will probably be more tomorrow

We have a small one that we got in case Y2k got messy. It didn't, but we lost power for 10 days in 2008 when we had an ice storm. It came in handy.
Glad you had one. It sounds like it was a life saver during the ice storm. Did you have to move it from appliance to appliance or could it run several at the same time?
It can't run the whole house, but it can run several things. We have to flip breakers on and off. We also have septic, so we need electricity to flush the toilet and run water.
Does it plug into your breaker box? I have seen those too, but you have to have a special hook up for that.

We loose power a lot for some unknown reason, even when there insn’t a storm or bad weather. The longest was when Hurricane Isabel hit and we lost it for 15 days. It was terrible this summer we lost it 3 times in July and we all had COVID and it was miserable.
