Hey, Annie.....you're the grammarian/librarian. What does "I'm zealous of my pain" mean?? I understand the premise but is that a proper use of the word zealous????

That bothered me too, so I looked it up. I could see using "jealous" but "zealous"? My crappy little dictionary that is by my computer says that "zealous" means "enthusiastic", so that makes sense the way she talks about it in the poem, I guess. I never would have used the word "zealous" but remember that her first language was not English.
