yep and they are all special too and each unique
My grandmothers were completely different....from different planets, as Maks said....but I learned amazing things from both of them. My dad's mom was the one who sewed and quilted and from whom I think I gained a fascination for that; my mom's mom was a psychiatrist from whom I learned to value education and scholarship. She was Phi Beta Kappa in undergrad school...majored in Latin and Greek--went on to become a doctor!!! She was amazing--especially for that time. My grandparents were all born in the early 1890's.that is so interesting.....my Grandmas were similar but different if that makes any sense at all......LOL....my mom's mom was very out going and my dads mom was more quiet but they had similar family values and goals too
My grandparents were different in every way. Dad's family was very poor so my dad went to work in the stockyards in Chicago when he was 12. He had to help support his family. He became a self-made man and did very well for himself but he worked hard all his life. My mom's family had money and were on the high side of the monetary equation so my dad never felt like he fit into that family. I think they kind've accepted him but he was just different from them. In fact, we are closer to our only cousin on Dad's side than to any and all of the cousins (there are 11 of them) on Mom's side. I think it was because my parents moved to NM when we were young to get away from all the nonsense!! We just visited them now and then...and that probably worked out best for all. Dad was very independent and was going to raise his family as he saw fit without anyone telling him what to do!!! LOL
I have completely different memories of both sides of the family but I never compared them...and I still don't. It was my dad's mom who got a little nuts about the economic differences when I was about 11 or 12. To that point, it never occurred to me--and I don't compare them to this day. They were just different people and I loved them for who they were.
