Karen & Julie’s Amazing, Fun, and Memorable Dance Lesson with Derek Hough*Prizeo winner Karen and her daughter Julie had their dance lesson with Derek Hough last week! Keep on reading for a guest blog from them, as well as some great photos from the day! Karen: We had a fabulous time. The dance lesson with Derek was absolutely the coolest! I had a short dance with him. Julie was so much better than I. So I gifted most of the time to her…He was so nice and patient. We did the lesson on their stage. So, during the lesson he also used some lighting and smoke. It was sooo cool!!
Julie: Let me start off by saying that the dance lesson was AMAZING, FUN, and MEMORABLE. The anticipation started April 7th when we found out that my mom won this prize and lasted longer than it was supposed to after Derek got injured. We finally got to have our dance lesson with him before the Move Live on Tour show in Austin, Texas. We were met by his tour manager and taken to the stage itself. They were still getting the stage ready for the show that night so there was some activity going on during the dance lesson. After a few minutes, Derek came out from behind the stage and gave us both big hugs.
He was extremely nice and made me feel comfortable right at the beginning. We talked for a few minutes and then got straight to the dancing. My mom was nice enough to let me have most of the dancing time with him while she recorded it (check out her videos here, here, here andhere!).
He was an awesome teacher! He was extremely patient and seemed very happy to be teaching us some dance steps. Doing the dance lesson on the stage allowed us to use the smoke and the lights that they were going to use for the tour that night and get some cool pictures.
We started off with an exercise of using our body weights to sway back and forth in order to build a better connection when dancing. We then did a combination called the octopus. Eventually we went to some steps that reminded me of the Argentine Tango.
Throughout the lesson, we took some funny selfies and some nice pictures together. It went by too fast!
Thank you to Derek for being so gracious with his time and allowing us to come on the stage and dance. Thank you to the crew for working with us and giving us the smoke and the lights to use during the lesson. I will be forever grateful for this experience!!
