But I was going to ask you all - what is the earliest Christmas memory you have? I remember shopping with my mom when maybe 4 yrs old. And pointing to a life sized newborn baby doll. And wanting it. But no, couldn't buy it that day.
And then it was one of my Christmas presents! So loved that dolly. The old shopping center (only one around then) use to have a little house in the parking lot that stayed all year but at Christmas they decorated it and Santa would be there so you could go and visit him...I remember going I was probably 4 or 5 and I had a hat and a tweed looking coat with a little velvet collar on it...This Santa had a real beard too!!!
I loved going to see Santa at the stores. We also had Santa on TV. (the same guy) He was local and did this santa workshop show, read letters that he got from kids and even read out of the bible the "Christmas story". To me, he was the real Santa. He always knew my name when I went to see him. LOL I even got a wagon from him one year. It was a raffle, community children party type of thing.
I love that Santa read the Christmas story to you

Something we started doing when the kids were little after Christmas we take all the ornaments off the tree and leave the lights on and then put balloons and party hats and streamers on it for New Years. We started having a New Year Party with them when they were small, it usually happened at about 8pm because they were little and we had the sparkling grape juice and crackers, popcorn and cheese or pretzels for snacks....The kids loved it and they remember it now...
Oh, that is cool. I like that idea.
Do you remember those "glass" ornaments? We had dozens of them when I was younger. So pretty, but dangerous, even when you were careful, they broke so easy.
I still have glass ones and some are from when I was little...I have a couple of the little ornaments that were on my first Christmas Tree...a tiny stocking and a snowman.
My favorite ones are the ones that my children made in school with paper and macaroni or on jar lids...

And then it was one of my Christmas presents! So loved that dolly.Oh wow, What a great memory. I have so many, but my biggest memories were that I always had to wait until my mother got up in the mornings, video camera in hand, before I could go out and see what Santa brought. It was always mid-mornings...so it felt like forever. LOL She had to video tape everything. heheh
One of the "sadder" Christmas was after my parents divorced. We didn't do much that year to celebrate, but we did have a real Christmas tree, went to some kind of community party and brought home lots of yellow balloons. That was all the "decorations" that we had on the tree that year. It still ended up being a nice Christmas. Still have a picture of our "balloon" tree.. lolLove it....
One of my favorite Christmas' was one year my daddy had wrapped these presents, little ones and they were under the tree for me and mama...(it was just me, daddy and mama) and when I opened it written in the bottom of the little box it said "I love you, Daddy" everytime I think about it it makes me smile and cry at the same time...I still have that little box it is is my most cherished gift I ever got from him....
that is so sweet

Oh, my gosh! how wonderful April.
Luv reminded me that when my children were very young - 2 and 5 maybe...we had moved to Minneapolis and it was our first Christmas away from our home state and families close by. And money was tight. We had a nice big tree and lights, yes, but we made most of the ornaments and for the angel...
I wrapped a white chiffon scarf around little girl's Barbie Doll - and made some wings...paper towel cardboard tube made it perch on top of the tree!!
You know, some of the best memories are often the simplest things or just making it special with what you have/had to work with.
you are so right Luv...we didn't have a fireplace so my mama bought this cardboard one you put together that looked like red and white brick...I was so excited because I knew Santa would be able to come in the house now....LOL
We never had a fireplace. I can not remember if I ever questioned about "how would Santa come" or not. I think I always knew who Santa was. OH.....Now I remember.......I also had to wait for Santa to come in the mornings. LOL...So not only was I waiting for mom to get up, but for Santa to deliver my presents. LOL I think I was around 6 at the time. LOL
